FINALLY played my first game.

by Napalm Backflip » June 2nd, 2013, 1:04 am

I've been attempting to get my local store / gamer friends of mine into Infinity for quite a long time, with very little acceptance. I've had a couple of people with interest but schedules or something always came up and prevented the actual game.

Well finally today we got our first two games in. We used the Beasts of War quickstart rules and they worked like a charm, getting us both used to the orders and ARO system. We both had an absolute blast, with the second game coming down to two rank and file troopers shooting each other at the same time, both with criticals. We probably flubbed some rules but nevertheless it was a wonderful time, and I've finally gained a convert to Infinity.

It's all gravy from here. :D

Just the other day we adjusted to yet another thing we had being playing incorrectly in some ways. Don't sweat it the community as a whole is very understanding.
What I do: Chef by trade, arsehole by choice and I play and TO for Infinity when I'm not being either.

Our group plays monthly ITS events and has a weekly Friday Night Firefight that usually sees 3 to 5 games played. There's around 10 of us, and the 3 vets have been playing since the release of book one. Collectively we are 7 of the top 15 USA ranks, and 5 of the top 25 Global ranks. We have run 4 campaigns in the last 2 years, including Paradiso. (All that just to say we play the game A LOT)

We screw up rules every. damn. game. In fact the group's motto is 'We'll learn to play this game eventually." Thankfully, there is usually a third or fourth person hovering around the table trolling whoever is doing well. And also helping to look up and confirm rules.

More than any other minis game I've played, Infinity is a fast paced, exciting game with lots of ups and downs and tempo reversals. That makes the game fun, but it can be hard to be having that much fun and also have a cool, calm recollection of what is undeniably a very complex rules set.
I'm Impetuous and Irregular.

Great stuff, glad you enjoyed the game!

I found the same thing - quite difficult to get people to start playing a game (they tend to stick with the familiar) but if you can get them to try, the mechanics of Infinity sell the game so well. It really has got so much more to it than so many other games.

Just in time for Infinity 3.0 Edition?

:suicide:

We're starting to truly get our group started, and it seems we learn by making mistakes more than anything.

It goes like this:

1. Make a mistake in-game
2. Discuss it after the game
3. Look up the rule(s)
4. Post a question in the rules forums
5. get answers
6. have an epiphany
7. Screw up another rule next game, return to step 1.
