You'd be surprised, the MDF we use is a higher grade than average and is stronger than you might think.

If you think about it the major stresses are compression ones, driving down through the length of strut vertically, as they have solid feet and connectors to the underside of the structure they are not going to move around and the weight actually makes them stronger not weaker. There's some good videos on youtube of how really flimsy supports can take a large load provided it is going down through them.

Basically what I'm saying is if that big strut piece was made from mounting card instead of MDF it would probably be able to take the weight of the roads probably with a brick on it as well, just from pure engineering point of view.

Knowing the strength of their MDF I reckon you'd need to hold the top and bottom of the strut and really put some effort in to manage to snap it. Seriously doubt any normal gaming wear is going to damage it.

Got a game down the club with Surprize tonight and I've been frantically modelling this up for it! I think it's taken about 3 days of modelling in amongst other jobs and there are a couple of small errors but it'll do for club terrain. I'm going to fix those errors and add tons of lovely engraving for my personal one, and maybe one will find it's way to Surprize for his new dropship. The landing pad is 300mm square, I don't know how big the whole thing is but it took up my whole damn desk and has over 340 parts to it.

This isn't intended to be a production item, it's an attempt to do some 'hobby' modelling where I can disregard all those considerations for a boxed item, which is how I was able to make it so quickly. We have discussed making a very small run of 5 and giving them a variety of awesome paintjobs then sticking them on ebay, but that's about it.

That is phenomenal!

But sad that it's not meant for production, happy as I probably couldn't afford it. But I second Crushar with desire for that landing pad!

Or. Warmill and I will effectively spend the evening playing dolls house under the guise of "setting up the terrain properly"..

Here's a thought would you consider loaning one of these to a major American ITS? We could do a bit of advertising for you. We'd ship it back. :D

Yeah we could do that. Still a bit of work to do to it though.

Poor old Surprize had to pull out of the game tonight due to spousal poorliness, so no shiney pictures yet unfortunately. Here's a couple more awful phone pics to show the interior access and scale though, as well as the frantic primer spray paintjob I gave it ;).

Pffft you got played dude! ;)

Theoretically we could release it as a kit, it just comes down to finding a big enough box, me being arsed to do the instructions, setting up the large number of sheet files, and whether there's enough people out there who would buy it at the cost it would be with all the engraving detail I'm going to add.

Are you free to do this game this week instead? I supposed to be going to a work away day, but going to sack it off at 4.30 and head to the club if you're free. Might get a basecoat done on the dropship this week post-inlaws.

Perhaps the kit could be sold as a show/convention only item?

Wow!

That is going to be a seriously cool looking table with all that gear. It always amuses me that people who get big orders like this (Valiant & Crusher also spring to mind) probably don't realise that once painted they'll have as much Warmill terrain to game over as the guys who designed and made the stuff!!

Some tips on megacity, work out how it goes together, i.e. the concept of legs, base plate, top plate, and barriers. Then decide how you are going to assemble it and paint it.

I've taken the approach of painting the legs, base plate, top plate, and barrier separately, and bringing them together at the end, however remember that paint adds a thin layer, and that means i trim the join pegs with a craft knife to give a better fit.

The kit is really flexible but you need to think carefully about how you are going to assemble and store it.

Good advice. I don't have any experience of the elevated roads, but I know Warmill stores their display set of low roads with the side barriers completely assembled, but not fixed in place. We slot on the side walls when setting the terrain up. Not sure if you can leave the elevated legs off and the finished piece still be sturdy in game, but you're right - worth thinking about in advance.

Not been around here for a while due to 2 shows in quick succession and what could be considered 'proper' work, but rest assured things haven't been forgotten about!

Currently finishing detailing for the modular facility building since after all this time we really should finish it ;), then I suppose we have to decide what to do with the helipad. Fully detailed I'd hazard a guess at a cost between £100 - 125, so we're still deciding whether there are enough people interested to make it worth setting up for production or if we go for the 5 money-no-object people and stick some fully painted ones on ebay for £250-300.

Warmill will be at a bit of a standstill for a few weeks, Ed's day job is pretty full-on right now (uni students prepping for graduation shows) and I've been roped into my GF's business for a bit while we make 10 fibreglass cow heads /:|
