[Burn In Designs]

After an insane amount of prototypes, silly mistakes and complete rebuilds the kits are ready to go into the store. The set will include 3 different road deck lengths, 2 sizes of T intersection, 90 degree corner sections, 2 different size sets of stairs, an inline way-station/tram stop, single and dual hab block platforms that is compatible with the TMAWH apartments, 3 different styles of risers and a fully engraved elevator unit. Lots of parts. In just playing with it for the pictures the basic options will cover a 4x5 table.

All the units are designed to link together using 1/4" magnets*. The height to the road deck is 4.75" so it has enough space to make it easy to fit you hand and models under for movement. The shipping versions will ship with a mix of wood and acrylic parts.

These are the early pictures for the set. I will be taking final pictures for the website this week along with bundles of kits and prices. The bundles will be designed around themes like, apartment blocks, transportation units and the long road.

As a note to everyone, remember to recharge the batteries in your camera regularly. I forgot so I tried these with an HD webcam which was not ideal. They were lit for photo and the switch to video did not help at all. Don't worry the final pictures will be much better and I will include measurements for those planning tables.

Awesome! But more questions!

1. Where are the commercial buildings?
2. I appears that the elevator and hab block landings basically terminate the road?
3. How does the road bed look when terminated with a hab block? Does it look odd to have a road run directly into a building?
4. Do you have a specific magnet that has worked perfectly for these? I'd rather not have trial and error.
5. Any plans for a road package deal?
6. Does the "Dual hab block landing w/2 apt modules ($65)" come with the narrow stairs? I didn't see a seperate listing for it specifically.

1 - They are coming
2 - Yes, the road decks were designed to be used as either pedestrian people movers or for vehicles. As things move forward there will be additional landings to give even more options.
3 - There is a buffer section for each of the human walking pieces.
4 - 1/4" dia x 1/8" thick magnets.
5 - I have to save something for the store post.
6 - I knew i missed something. Yes 1 stair set is included for sure and I may add a second. I need to look at the cut sheets to make sure.

The road lengths are 5", no rails, 8" w/hoops and rails and 11.5" w/hoops and rails. The way station fits between the hoops on the 11" road. The inside space is 9x4.75. The road is just under 6" wide. Oh I almost forgot the roof on that one is made of 2 engraved, removable acrylic panels. This was done again to make movement easier.

The acrylic pieces, do they have the same color options as the defense walls have? Orange, Blue, and Green? Want to make sure when I order that everything matches.

Also, the "Welcome to Rock Ridge photo gallery" link goes to a picture of a Halloween costume of a baby in a power-loader. I'd really like to see the Welcome to Rock Ridge full table setup, as I'm considering that vs an equivalent purchase from a competing UK company's western line.

I think they fit but may require a tiny bit of trimming. There is one spot that may overlap under the road deck by about a 1/8" so nothing major to trim off. I'll check the drawings and make an adjustment if necessary.

I was kinda leaning on that one too, but still at the moment going through a bit of a internal struggle. Part of me wants a more fancy-esk city layout, but still also want pods. Need to see if I can come up with a divided setup with the city on one side and the pod slum on another...

I'm not saying BID shouldn't use Kickstarter if they have a valid need, but producing sets like these doesn't fit does not at all seem to fit with that as they could put the items up on the shop and start taking and filling orders immediately.

It's not a pre-order system and should not be treated as such, so I really hope their Kickstarter is for something more substantial and worthwhile than adding to their lineup.

I'm going to have to agree with all said above. When Reaper did their KS I felt that KS was being abused.

Reaper was piling money for the new molds. Assuming the molds are priced higher than spin cast metal ones, I see why they did it. If they finally managed to get the machinery in house, even more so.

What irks me is that now KS is associated with "give me moooooore or I pull out". Small companies are having a hard day since that concept catched.

Hey everyone,

The primary reason we are launching a Kicksrtarter is as a way to grow the company. In business terms we are a 1 year old company so capitalization is tough. Currently we own our laser cutters but to grow to the level we would like to we need to upgrade to larger faster hardware. Launching a Kickstarter allows us to do that and improve the quality of the products at the same time.

I agree that the idea behind Kickstarter is to bring new products to market and we are using it that way. In the case of this project we wanted to start the Kickstarter at the beginning but ran into the issue of time and wanted to have the project close to complete before we launched it. I hate projects with 6 moth lead times. This way we can have a 30 day lead time to begin shipping the first units.

So the idea is once the KS is started/ended 30 days later you plan to start shipping to backers? I only ask because I'm still highly interested in buying several of excellent product, but by the very nature of KS there is no guarentee when I give my money that I will actually see anything. Yes, that's likely not the case here, but it's certainly less reassuring than just going to your store and clicking "buy".

I should add, I support your (BiD) concept for the KS in the sense of "we need larger and faster hardware to produce awesome stuff like this" but in a general KS perspective.
I just dislike companies using KS to drum up interest in a new product when they could technically just produce and sell it anyway.

I apologize if I caused any additional tension, but having seen these in person I am very excited for them, and nearly everyone I have talked to that has physically seen them has the same opinion, even my non-gaming girlfriend is excited.

I am not wishing to offend any opinions, but a company that has been in existence for less than two years, is not exactly an established company, many companies don't actually reach a marketable position until their second or sometimes even third year. I love the idea of crowd-sourcing funding to expand such an wonderful company. Talk to Lathan in person for 10 minutes and you will end up just as excited as we were. Look forward to seeing your expansion, and will be making, most likely numerous, purchases once my resources replenish after Adepticon.

When Reaper said that they were doing a kickstarter I didn't think that made any sense.

Thanks everyone. We are back from Adepticon. Getting to meet with everyone was great!!! After talking to the guys at CMoN (TOTALLY AWSOME PEOPLE!!!) and having them pretty much teach me a class on Kickstarter from both the highs and lows I am still weighing the options. Either way the parts will be released in May. I have kept people waiting long enough. So sit tight.

The stackable buildings Metaverse towers will be up and available for order at the end of this week. I will be including an option for interior walls and doors that can be cut to fit so you can build rooms inside the buildings. I will try and get pictures of these before they go on the site. It is just a matter of plowing through all the photos and emails since Adepticon.

Here's a question. Do the Metaverse buildings also work with the elevated platforms? Can I get an elevated Metaverse building for example? I am not sure I will do this, but it's nice to have options I suppose....
