Kickstarter thread - all Kickstarters go here!

There's a whole world out there, besides Infinity. Discuss it here. Keep it civil, folks!

Decided to drop my Empire of the Dead pledge and put it into Achtung Cthulhu books instead.

As a couple of friends are going to be playing some Bolt Action this year, I'm planning on twisting things up with a weird war edge and throw some really oddities into the scenarios. We'll be scaling from straight out wargames with tanks and troops on each side, to smaller infinity style 6-10 chaps per side performing raids, rituals and that sort of thing.

That sounds very cool. I'd love to drag my friends into it but we've already made our pledges.

'Sci-Fi Traffic Hazards' Infinity Terrain Kickstarter

by Pacific » March 31st, 2013, 11:05 pm

Hey guys,

Following on from comments on the 'Terrain' section of the forum, this new Kickstarter has just started, and I'm sure will be of interest to a lot of Infinity collectors.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1628235004/sci-fi-traffic-hazards-28mm-vehicles-for-the-futur

Image

Essentially a collection of different Sci-Fi vehicles, there are varieties including but not limited to:
- Futuristic cars, bikes, and monowheels of various styles
- a 'car podule'
- Cargo Haulers which fit on top of Tommygunn paper crates, as well as utility vehicles
- a Train (perfect for the Paradiso mission!)
- a baby carrier!

Early days for the Kickstarter yet, but I think the designer has got some great concepts down which fit the Infinity universe really well, and are thoroughly worth checking out.

I love these! I wish I had the spare money to contribute to them...

I especially love the Train. Though I would probably Magnetize it to have it be variable between the 2 Configurations.

I'll wait until these are all done and in production I think. Very risky to back something where there are no shots of physical models, rendering software can make anything look all shiny and nice, doesn't mean it can be printed and cast and not look a mess.

Guys.. I'm not being funny, but doesn't it make sense to have a Kickstarter that relates specifically to Infinity in the News and Rumour section?

I can understand not wanting stuff like random Cthulu or Empire of the Dead KS news cluttering up the place, but not this?

Well, after last situation there were lots of talks about Kickstarters, one of the option was even forbid them completely. You can discuss the campaign here, or continue discussing cars in Terrain section. I see no reason in having another, separate topic.

Putting it in the cars section would be fine by me. Since people have been talking about about this specific kickstarter in that thread.

To be fair, how many Infinity-focused Kickstarters have come along so far?

Why aren't you able to judge on a case by case basis? Instead this KS, which could be of great benefit to many who are interested in making a terrain set-up for Infinity, will be buried in the ass-end of the board. Hell I didn't even know this section existed until someone pointed me to it! And of course you've got the other situation of no-one posting anything in 'News' for more than a few days now.

Finally, I thought this might be a chance for the Data-sphere forum to stand out from the Official Infinity forums (especially considering the guy who made this KS thread said he doesn't know about that other forum, and won't post there). This guy is doing something new and exciting, something that a lot of Infinity players have been demanding for a long time, and there is the possibility that it is just going to get missed.

Anyway just posting my thoughts here - it just felt a lot to me that a rule is being enforced in a blasé fashion without thinking about the intent of that rule. Having worked as a moderator on other boards, I know the lure of the 'delete' or 'move' key, and people's desire to use that just for the hell of it when there are no other better candidates for it.

So why not post it as an offer, they're making these cars, this is the site, they cost this much, and if you want them right now there's a KS?

Because the KS creator doesn't respect it enough to even put a link on his own website  and if it's a KS-only post, it belongs here.
I strongly suspect that if it fails, it won't be because of Kickstarter-posting rules. If they don't care, why should we?

These are physical models, and actual resin casts of 3D print masters. The man has insane airbrushing skillz.

I got the impression that the creator isn't particularly forum/website savvy. I don't think he is going to post on the official forums either, just because he is not that confident about going fresh into such an established community.

Anyway obviously none of this is anything to do with me, and to be honest I don't really care what happens - other than I would have liked to see this KS succeed, just because its a boon to Infinity fans, and it might have been an opportunity to give Data-Sphere something that the official forums won't give any prominence to.

it might have been an opportunity to give Data-Sphere something that the official forums won't give any prominence to.
The thread would probably get locked or even deleted, based in rules that appeared at end of 2012 and the casualties that have fallen in the last 4 or so months. That is the difference between Data Sphere and official forums. Or from different point of view: one reason DS was started, if not biggest or only, as you can put private trading and company ads in same bag, business.

For all those wanting to do a YuJing resort, some East Asian buildings. Unassembled but prepainted kits, or quick coated wood before cutting would be more exact.

No his site http://thirdfatecreations.com/ is primitive. I've sent him an email asking him to join. Since his project is Infinity related I will allow him to open a thread in the retailers section to talk about it.

@Pierzasty I love that figure too. It's currently available in metal so you can buy it right now. :D

Fair points, It was really more of an issue of im perhaps old fashioned enough that it feels rude to jump into a site and say Hey, pledge here, unless invited or already established in said community. I blame my martial arts instructors. As for web savvy, your right Im not that web savy, I havent updated my webpage with pictures ive painted in over a year because painting and modeling is far more fun. My webpage is more for people looking for details on getting painting commissions which I only accept a couple a year. Also, I was holding off a couple days to get feedtback on another forum for minor tweaks to presentation since I figure most people will look at something once, decide based on first impressions, and never look at it again. My painting style is a little over the top for most people and many cant look past it to see the models underneath. I waited until I had a few minor tweaks, then decided it would be wise to listen to Pacific since I think todays world looks at "rude" a little less strictly than Im used to.

.. and frankly I was so focused on logistics, talking with the casters to work out kinks, etc etc... I forgot my website. . Ill rectify that shortly Edit: rectified. Also I figured it was more important to hit the forums first. Thanks for your suggestions .

Anyway, I started a thread in the vendors area at the suggestion of kidterminal.
http://datasphere.codestrike.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=571
This kickstarter is for the models, not my painting. If you dont like my painting please try to look past it.

Thanks everyone.

Hello Steve thank you for responding. I've noticed that established companies do well on kickstarter because people know them, but start-ups from relative unknowns can languish.

Indeed. Thanks for the advice. And the invitation. Since the culture here seems fairly welcoming it works out. But I originally considered "would I post on an official GW forum for a KS that applied to GW products?" a few friends and I agreed this could easily backfire by inflaming both GW and GW diehards. By extrapolation, as I didnt know the Infinity community well, I had no idea what the culture with infinity was like and if it would be an equal faux pas. Ive been trolling some websites, but suggestions for amiable sites would be appreciated.

That's hard, there has been some rather nasty marketing tactics practiced by kickstarters on forums including this one. Hence the need for the invite.
