You can't kill what you can't see - Shasvastii operation log

Back to Shasvastii - this was my third sectorial after Acontecimento and Military Orders. I took it because I wanted army that plays comletely different from my PanO. And oh boy, it sure does.

Today's game was standard 300 pts YAMS battle against Errhile's Hassassins. My list:

Hassassins had the initiative, so I deployed defensively. All TO units were hidden, with Malignos sniper overlooking Lasiqs, Noctifier and Aswangs guarding my DZ, second Malignos and Speculo positioned to close with Asawira. Shrouded spread wide, securing centre and right flank with mines.

Errhile deployed his Fiday last, close to one of my minelayers. He locked it down with mine and went back into hiding, got shot by Noctifier, but survived. Noctifier was unlucky twice - one of Lasiqs saw it and managed to put it down for good. Meanwhile Ghazi went forward into my half of the table. One searched the crate for intel, second hunkered down in a warehouse, just a few steps from my Malignos...

My turn, then. Malignos activated, shot the unlucky Ghazi and moved closer towards the Asawira. As the only route was overlooked by two Lasiq snipers I had to do something about that. My sniper shot twice at link leader, managed to cause a wound and break the link. Two other snipers made him pay for that, though. Route still not secure, I've tried to shot other snipers with Shrouded FO, but he was met by a hail of viral rounds, and - surviving them! - fall prone and out of sight. One of my minelayers moved closer to surviving Ghazi, but he couldn't get a clear shot without one of the enemy snipers seeing it. I've managed to hid my Malignos under TO marker, and that was it.

Hassassins retaliated. Ghazi moved towards prone Shrouded on the warehouse roof, as that was my only visible figure. He got close to a mine, shot it with Chain rifle without getting in range, but the mine survived. Ghulam doctor finished my job with wounded Lasiq - one Hassassin down. Asawira was next - he moved to see my TO marker, tried to discover, heard 'ARO: Monomine' and froze. Ragik tried to land on top of the warehouse, behind the Shrouded, but dispersed and landed one building south, moved out and cover warehouse side door. And finally Asawira tried to discover the Monomine - he was either minimally in, or out of range. Unfortunately - in. Lieutenant in shreds, command moved to Farzan.

My second turn. Lonely Seed Soldier showed up. Without much to do elsewhere I've moved my Speculo out of her hiding spot, throw down some smoke to cover the route from Lasiq eyes and moved to firing position against Ragik. He survived and I was out of orders.

Third round for the Hassassins. Ragik promptly tried to kill the Speculo, but she managed to throw down the smoke. He tried again, putting down Suppressive Fire, but I've managed to survived and moved out of sight. Ghazi moved again towards my Seed Soldier, saw a glimpse of hidden Shrouded, opened fire, but I've managed to survive and wounded the attacker. He moved forward, got on the Seed's level, wounded him and dropped dead.

Time to do something about my objectives, then. My Lieutenant moved, got into Ragik's blind spot and shot the Hassassin down. Speculo Mapped enemy DZ and moved into safe spot, so I could score Infiltrate.

Last one for the enemy - Fiday moved again, forcing my Shrouded to react. I responded with mine, barely failed ARM roll against enemy mine and that was it for the Shrouded. Errhile admitted that he has nothing to do with his remaining orders - my army was well hidden and camouflaged.

My final turn was short. Second Aswang moved to contest Fiday's building, fulfilling my Ambush against his Forward Base. Final two points for Hold, since I was far from being in retreat.

All in all - a nice, extremally close and pleasant game. I won 5/3 in points.

Lessons learned:

- I really need a BS Cadmus to break down entrenched enemy links. Dropping one behind enemies, making them turn, forcing ARO with different model and making them eat a mine - could just work. There was a marker on that roof as well, so It wouldn't work this time, but I'll catch them unaware some time.

- Beware of shock and viral ammo. This one's obvious, but worth noting again. Malignos and Shrouded with one wound can always try to get back up. Not so with those two kind of ammo.

- Make a plan. My first turn was fairly random, because I didn't survey the battlefield enough. That was a serious mistake, and I barely got out of this one by planning on the spot.

Thought/comments/constructive criticism are welcomed.
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but shouldn't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem deal with itself?
