Noob question

by el_presidente » September 10th, 2014, 10:00 pm

So I've been looking and I really like the looks of the base-o set, and this would be my first purchase of infinity terrain. What I have noticed is that most other buildings have walls around the roofs while the base-o buildings have the railings.

Are they equivalent in game terms when it comes to cover and being prone?

Any additional comments on the playability of the terrain would also be nice :)

thanks

In my experience, a railing is NOT the same as a parapet (low wall around a roof).

One might provide cover (even if it's only to a prone model), the other does not.

Rooftops in our games tend to be deathtraps - as do elevated walkways for this reason. No cover, visible to all.

You could always house rule them to be a -3 on BS, but no +3 on ARM. We did the same with plants and foliage. Difficult to see through, but the railing won't hold back much when trying to shoot at the units behind it. The Base-O line is one of the best I've seen around in regards to playability, modularity and design!

We play it as cover. Considering crossing the rooftops takes you out of base-to-base contact with the railings, it's still a risky affair. Up to you I supposed.

I do recommend getting some cracks and stacking those up on rooftops and such. Breaking LOS is important!

You won't regret buying a set of Systema! You can do all kinds of cool setups with it, so it'll keep your table interesting! Besides Infinity, I'm also painting up a few units with a dirty look for use in the Batman Miniature Game (I've got something of a docks table, so the industrial look fits well).

I would post pics, but the mrs has got my smartphone and I still haven't bought a tablet. ;)

Same here. We in general consider all the railings and such as granting cover since all those cool looking terrain pieces wouldn't see a lot of use.
