Hacker Repeaters

by Cpl. Sgt. Kill » July 21st, 2014, 2:04 pm

I recently caught something of interest and I'd like to make sure it's legit before I try it out on the tabletop.

So it says hackers act as repeaters for other hackers in the army. I have a few somewhat related questions.

1. For sake of argument lets look at NCA. In the same army is a Fusilier hacker in a link and a Deva hacker. Unless the Deva gets murdered, technically you never have to use the Fusilier as a hacker itself, which means it technically doesn't drop out of the link. Is this right?

2. Lets say we have an infiltrating camouflage hacker, a Zero or Hawwa. Do they still act as a repeater while in a camouflaged state?

1. You never have to use any hacker as a hacker, I'm not sure I understand your question. If you don't want to activate the Fusilier and the Deva separately, then don't? If you spend an order on the link to have the Link Leader Hack, and the rest of the Link does no other action, the Link remains intact.

2. You must reveal to be used as a repeater.

Basically just a way for the Deva to be in two places at once. I face Aleph/Achilles often.

No one hacks in our meta so I'm the first one to have a look into it. Sorry if some of these questions sound stupid, don't want to end up teaching a newbie the wrong way. :P

If you're looking to spread your hacking Zone of Control out, having a Fusilier Hacker on one side of the Link group and the Deva on the other side of the Link group would work, yes. And the Fusilier could just be a Repeater, allowing the Deva to always be the Hacker while using the Fusilier's ZoC.

That's the idea, thanks.

I like it fluffwise especially. The Deva operating through some hapless Fusilier to further Aleph's own agenda, seems very Neoterran to me. :P

If your Deva uses the Fusilier as a Repeater, it does not cause the Fusilier to fall out of the link.

If an enemy moves an HI, TAG, or REM into Zone of Control of either Hacker, or any of your REMs that have the Repeater skill, both Hackers can ARO to Immobilize. This will also not drop the Fusilier out of the link team, unless other team members wish to execute another ARO.

Is this true? I thought that only models with LOF to the active enemy model gain AROs. Your Deva hacker in cover at the other end of the table doesn't get an ARO because your fusilier hacker (acting as a repeater in this case) saw something.

Slightly different case for Hacking as hacking isn't based on LoF, but rather on ZoC.

Hackers have ZoC to anything within the ZoC of a repeater (and thus other hackers). This allows a specific ARO: Hacking as well as Change Facing.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

It's going to make Tunguska with their universally repeaters line infantry (securitate), very interesting against some opponents...

Hacking and repeaters makes AROs complicated.

Even ignoring that, you can gain an ARO without LoF when the order passes through your ZoC.
