Mr. Stone's Class Needs a New Turtle...

by ElectricPaladin » July 20th, 2014, 9:38 pm

Hi, everyone!

You might know me as ElectricPaladin, but the kids in my classroom know me as Mr. Stone, their 6th grade science teacher.

One of the things I try to do is provide an awesome and enriched educational environment which includes all sorts of cool science stuff. The importance of cool science stuff cannot be understated. Memorizing things and practicing science skills might pass tests, but it's hands-on activities and cool science stuff that makes kids say "I wanna be a scientist when I grow up!"

For the past five years, one of those cool science things has been our class turtle, Benjamin.

Last week, Benjamin was laid low by a gas leak on campus.

The setup costs for a new animal are quite high, and I'm hoping to crowdfund it. Please check out my indiegogo campaign and consider making a donation or at least boosting the signal.

I'd be happy to answer questions here or at the indiegogo page.

Thanks for your time.

Threw down because class pets are awesome and great teachers don't get paid enough for helping out. We used to just have a tank filled with spiders that got pretty intense when they invaded each other's corner.

You had me at "teacher" looking to "provide an awesome and enriched educational environment." I'm a supply on summer break, but as soon as I muster some spare floating cash, I'll throw it your way!

(I've also noticed that my Tactica reposting is pushing pages off the most-recent-posts page, so I'll quit that for a while to help this project's visibility!)

I know how "well-funded" the education system is down in the States, never mind up here in Canada. Good teachers need all the help they can get!

I haven't looked directly at the site yet; not really in a place to do so, yet. How's the progress?

That's fantastic. Very happy to hear that! When's the deadline (late August-ish)?

30 days, so... mid-August? Let me check...

August 19th is the deadline, so whenever in August you'd call that, that's it.
