This is a battle report for Descriis zombie scenario of Zday. I apologize for my poor Photoshop skills but none the less I hope you enjoy reading it and it inspires you to try it because it was a fantastically nerve wracking scenario that was tons of fun to play. This is more of an overview of the events of the game and not so much a massively detailed report. I also had to use some old GW minis for the zombies.
Players-
Athanadros- Yu Jing
Arkas- Zombies He is on the Infinity forum but he doesn’t post much.
Yu- Jing
I put an army together symbolizing a local security force that was not prepared for the Zombie outbreak. I wanted it to seem more like a ragtag group of soldiers who happened to be either stationed or on patrol in the area when the infestation took place.

The deployment zone for YJ is in the red box. The zombies come in on table edges.

The helicopter was piloted by none other than……. The A Team.
Table- The table was not set up exactly like Descriis rules stated. The helicopter was close to an edge but was two stories higher than the ground level of the board.

Who better to rescue people from zombie infested city streets than BA Barakas and the boys!
Round 1- The zombie player rolled an 8 on his 2d6 and with the plus 5 for the size of the YJ force he started the game with 13 zombies. There were a few spots on the board I could not add zombie markers to the deployment picture so all of the zombies rolled are not shown.
All the zombies were placed and the ARO’s followed. Descriis zombies are tough as nails so without rolling a critical one shot on an ARO will not stop them. My only critical was from a Guilang who popped out of camo. The Guilang fired blew the zombies head off and proceeded to yell out….. HEAD SHOT!!!

Once ARO’s for the zombies entering were finished then Arkas moved the zombies forward. A bunch more ARO’s ensued but no criticals.
Round 1- Yu Jing turn. I rolled for civilians and 2 entered the board. We both wanted to keep in the spirit of the game so I had them come on the board in spots that would be challenging and not right next to the chopper. After a round full of ineffectual shooting I only managed to kill 2 more zombies and drop 1 to unconscious ( he got up next round .
Round 2- Arkas rolled again for his zombies and another 11 entered the board. ARO’s for zombies entering and their movement produced no criticals and therefore YJ was not in a good spot. One zombie was barely close enough to get into CC with the Guilang who did nothing on both his ARO’s to stop him and the zombie ripped the Guilang limb from limb. Otherwise none of the other zombies were close enough to do anything.
Round 2- YJ rolled for civilians and 4 entered the board. I placed them reasonably evenly across the board but put two closer to the chopper because with my bad rolling for ARO’s and to hit rolls on my last turn coupled with Arkas’s amazing ARM rolls (hit 4 times with spitfire, he needs 15 or better on 4 rolls 15, 16, 19, 19. This was how he rolled all game) and his high rolls for zombies entering the board I new I had to get some civvies close to the chopper.
Once again my rolling was terrible. I wasted 7 orders on an Aragato to kill 3 zombies. The only saving grace was another head shot by the Shang Ji on a zombie who was heading straight for a civvie.

Round 3- I cannot remember what Arkas rolled but by the beginning of round 3 he had 25 zombies on the board. Here is a pic of all the dice he used to keep track of their impetuous and normal orders.

To say things were not looking good was an understatement. In this round an Aragato, a Kempetai and 2 civilians were brutally ripped apart and eaten by zombies while ARO’s……lots of ARO’s only produced one more critical.

Round 3- YJ- With zombies hot on their tails 3 civilians managed to get to the chopper.
The Shang Ji by the chopper moved to the opposite side of the platform to cover the civilian’s backs. After wasting 5 orders the Shang Ji managed to kill 3 zombies. 2 are shown in the pic.

he flank on the opposite side of the table was collapsing and I didn’t have nearly enough orders to do what I needed. I managed to drop another zombie on that flank only to have him get back up next round…..YAY!!!
Turn-4. Finally only 7 zombies entered the table. The zombies advanced but were not close enough to anyone for CC and ARO’s proved to be futile.
Turn-4- YJ- I managed to get 2 more civvies to the chopper and tied the score at 5 VP’s a piece. A few more zombies were killed by My Shang Ji and Zhanshi with HMG. With my Lt. order he laid down suppression fire at 5 zombies heading his way.
The roll was made to get the chopper to stay and I quote BA Barackas.
“I pity the fool who leaves poor civvies stranded when zombies is after em!”
Thus the chopper stayed for another round.
Turn-5- Went from bad to worse. Arkas, who I have to give tons of credit to because he truly stuck to the spirit of the mission and played the zombies perfectly. He never hid behind cover, he never tried to avoid ARO’s, he just shambled forward like any self respecting zombie would do! His first of 5 zombies lusting after my Lt. brains lunged right into my suppression fire. A full burst of combi fire barked out of the Lt. gun and missed all three shots. That’s right folks, 3 shots at close range……3 misses. Needless to say my Lt. wound up being worm bait. A zombie also killed the last Aragato.
Turn-5- YJ. Now in LtL I chose my new Lt. kept the chopper there and kept my fingers crossed.

Turn-6- Redemption. I somehow managed to roll 3 criticals for ARO’s when they counted and kept the zombies from killing anyone this round.
Turn6- YJ- I managed to get 2 more civvies to the chopper and once again tie the game. Everyone who didn’t have a shot of doing anything did nothing giving my one Shang Ji a few orders to bust some caps off in some more zombies butts. This was more for a moral victory.
Needless to say I let the chopper fly away and the game ended a tie.
We then played the 112 scenario in which I did not write a battle report for. But I can give you the gist of it very quickly. Redemption redemption redemption. I rolled 16 criticals in 5 rounds. I used an Imperial service army and lost only a Kaung Shi. Otherwise I inspected 5 of 7 buildings, rescued 2 civvies and destroyed 1 corpse marker. The premise behind this was I put together a force that was a strike team designed to go in and rescue civvies. It worked very well. Coupled with the fact the Arkas did not roll well for zombies entering the board that game and ARM saves
This is what I gathered from these games. Spitfires and HMG’s are huge against these zombies. Combi rifles are moderately useless and boarding shotguns are completely useless unless you roll awesome. Total reaction would be a good thing to have as well. Medusa also wrote rules for zombies and scenarios for them. His zombies are not as tough and therefore I would not suggest Total reaction with them. We ran out of time and didn’t get a chance to play Medusa’s scenarios but we absolutely will. Medusa I will try to write up some battle reps for them as well!!
I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did both playing it and writing it up!
