Deep Wars anyone?

by Oreet » June 10th, 2013, 4:26 pm

Has anyone played Deep Wars by Antimatter Games?

http://antimatter-games.com/games/deepwars/

I played a demo game Sunday with a friend who's got some starter boxes. It was a lot of fun, and I'm seriously considering buying a starter box for the Fortune Hunters faction. It had an interesting and potentially volatile activation system, really fun looking miniatures, and some interesting game mechanics.

Wow... so 124 page views, and no comments?

Anyway, I wanted to share an in-progress photo of a mini I'm painting for my Fortune Hunters. I'm going for a tarnished/patina bronze/copper look to my troops. This is my first attempt at this effect.

Interesting ti uses song of blades and heroes rules with additions. I have that rule system and have used it with D&D minis. You could easily use that rule system for nearly anything and its pretty good basic system.

Plus, the basic starter boxes are 35-40 for 4 miniatures, and since this is a skirmish level game, you can definitely play with just those 4.

And the minis themselves are amazing. Very well sculpted, and almost no cleanup needed on the minis.

And terrain is easy too. 90% of the terrain we use is from pet stores in the aquarium/fish supply section.

I bought the rulebook recently, as my lgs surprisingly had it, have been watching the game evolve for some time and liked what I have seen. As it's based on Song of Blades, the basic rules are relatively simple, but the book have much content, special rules, special terrain and such. It even has the points formula in the end allowing you to create your own units. The focus of the game seems to be more about narrative, scenarios and campaigns rather that ultra balanced tournament system. I probably get a starter or two at some point.
