List#1: Triads!

This list will focus on Triads, allowing you to form three 3-man linkteams in any combination you like. I’ll talk you through a certain build up, but you can combine them any way you like, and make your own! 😉

What you’ll need for this list:

  • Tohaa Starter
  • Makaul Box
  • Sakiel Spitfire Blister
  • Gao Rael sniper blister

The List:

Kamael (combi)
Ectros (Viral combi)
Makaul (Heavy Flamethrower, Swarm grenades)
Kamael (combi)
Sakiel (Spitfire)
Makaul (HFT)
Kamael (Observer)
Gao Rael (sniper)
Makaul (HFT)
Makaul (HFT)

This list gives you three Triads, all consisting of a Kamael (to fill them up and support), a Makaul (for Close Combat attacks) and a elite, heavy weapon toting profile. 10 regular orders, 1 Impetuous for the lone Makaul. 10 orders to spend on three linkteams. High mobility? Yessirrrr!

I personally favor the usability of these types of Triads. In ARO, the Heavy Flamethrower and Viral weapons of the Makaul keeps CC-specialist from sneaking up on the fireteam. In your Active turn, the Spitfire, Viral Combi Rifle and Sniper Rifle on the elite units can do tremendous damage. But like I said before.. try to figure out what YOU like to run!

Don’t forget that every shot (in ARO and in Active turn) have the added burst. Even in ARO you can shoot two bullets/templates with every weapon in the team. Lucky dice will show you not many units will survive such an attack.

Makaul are the Close Combat specialists of Tohaa; Martial Arts L2, Kinematica L2 and I-Khol l1, together with Viral CCWeapons and good CC stats of 22.

Martial Arts gives your model a +3 on the damage of the Viral weapon. In CC, damage is based on the PH stat of a model. Rolling BTS saves (because of the Viral Ammo trait) for a Damage 16 weapon is fearsome. MA L2 gives you access to L1. This adds a +1 to the Damage mod, and a -3 to the opponent’s CC skill.

Kinematica affects the Dodge and Engage traits, allow the Makaul to make a full move to dodge or get into close combat with a model.

I-Khol L1 gives the Makaul’s opponent a -3 modifier on its CC stats. So it’s not only a feared Close Combat specialist.. he makes your Close Combat specialists weaker. As far as we known, I-Khol stacks with MA L1, so if you encounter a true CC-specialist like the Domaru, you can force a -6 on his CC stat! Ouch! They come equipped with Zero-V smoke grenades, that allows the Makaul (and the entire Triad he’s with, to hide themselves in smoke that you can’t see through with visors. Great for sneaking up on people in CC.

They are X-Impetuous which won’t show up when linked, but as soon as the link breaks, or you leave them out of a link, they’ll start running towards to opponent.

The Gao-Rael is a entirely different unit. A Symbiont Armour wearing sniper, with a Multi Spectral Visor L2. The MSV2 allows this sniper to ignore the negative modifiers of camo, TO camo, ODD, and allows you to see through smoke, Low and Zero Visibility zones without any modifiers.

Zero V smoke, and MSV2? Not such a good combination, so keep that in mind. You’ll blind your Gao-Rael if you drop the Zero-V grenade.

Keep in mind that the Gao-Rael has a regular sniper rifle, so he applies the shock ammo trait to his weapon. With Symbiont Armour and the boosted Burst, this model is a long-range ARO terror, forcing your opponent to have to deal with him. You’ll have to work hard to dislodge him.

You might wanna correct the Poison for the Ectros there, it doesn’t work like that in 3rd edition!

I’m playing Tohaa and totally enjoyed reading this article. I was amazed by the Rasail troops by their look, but now with 3 wounds, I will get them for sure…

    Thanks

Just a heads up, Kumotail can’t repair Symbiont. Nothing in N2 can. N3 adds the possibility to heal Symbiont (with Symbiobombs) but you can’t do it many times.
