Minature Market

by JBRocky » February 28th, 2013, 8:05 pm

This is more of becareful of them article. Few weeks ago I bought stuff from Minature Market and The Warstore and placed the order on the same day. I needed to use both to get what I wanted so had to use both. I placed the order on a Wed and by monday I had my Warstore order in my hands and found out that the Minature Market order had just shipped that day. While I did get my order a few days later it just bothers me since I work in the Transportaion and Logistics field that The Warstore had my stuff to me even before Minature Market shipped.

Are you alive? I can't tell whether it's an automated spambot post or just the lack of punctuation.

He's not a bot. He's just angry. Personally I prefer the War Store, though my friend buys all his warmahordes from Miniature Market.

I have had no trouble with Miniature Market, they and Warstore average the same delay in getting orders shipped. Sometimes each of the companies are quick to get them out the door, other times they're not. MM now states on their front page that they have a 2 day delay in shipping orders (which is on the upper end of average)

However, I have had Warstore ship only partial orders (e.g, all but 1 item), and then after repeated emails confirm the item is 'back in stock' (website never listed it as out of stock) and ask if I would like to set up a 'new order' for the item... which would mean paying shipping again. Because of this I'm always wary about placing orders with them, and specifically state in the comments to notify me if any items are out of stock.

Spikey Bits has at least notified me that the items were out of stock after placing an order, and Rob @ Spikey Bits worked with me directly on resolving a lot of issues with out of stock items. I just wish that their website showed what was out of stock on item lists, without having to drill down to the detailed item view.

I've had that from them too. But I never had to pay shipping. They sent the back order items later without charging more shipping.

I've been using both pretty frequently lately, building up my Nomad force. I've also ordered from both of them on the same day (similar situation) and had both packages arrive on the same day. Once in a while one takes longer than the other, but they're both pretty darn quick. That said I've been dealing with Neal at the Warstore on and off for around 10 years, and always attempt to order from them first. Tough to beat the personal touch and customer service - the one problem I've had with their stuff was the postal office's fault, not theirs, and Neal still replaced all of the product I ordered, and corresponded with me directly on it. That's how you build a loyal customer.

Miniature Market shouldn't charge you any hidden fees, they should only charge you the final total price they quote you.

However, your CC will be charged in USD, but it will show up as the converted CAD charge (so x1.03). Additionally, your CC company may charge you a fee for the conversion (usually 1-2%). Shipping will be higher - free shipping is not available for international orders. Any customs fees will be your responsibility to handle, and thanks to NAFTA most things made in the USA shouldn't incur any import duties, if the item itself was made outside of North America, despite being bought from a US retailer, you may still need to pay a fee.

In the US, there are 3 major reputable independent online retailers for miniatures games - in no particular order they are The Warstore, Spikey Bits, and Miniature Market. In Canada, you might want to consider Sentry Box (I've ordered from them before, CA->US, though it was many years ago).

I have no hesitation ordering from Miniature Market - in fact I just placed a $100 order from them about half an hour before I posted this.
