Tohaa, Paradio campaign

by Berjiz » February 13th, 2013, 7:30 pm

The local group that I played with recently decided to play the whole paradiso campaign, starting with the 101 mission this week. I am planning to write battle reports for each scenario I play but I forgot to to take picutres.
Most of the game was spent at the middle objective and it turned out to be a meatgrinder for my troops.

I played versus Ardianna and used this list:

Don't have the opponents list atm but it might come later. The most important units he used were a Trakktor Mul with Katyushua, a vetran HI(his LT), basic troop with HMG, a sniper and a bunch of egineers and a doctor.

My list had some flaws which became apperent in the game. Orginally I wanted an HMG for the ectros but didn't have swc for it, so I was hoping that the range of the spitfires to be enough.

The terrain were various small buildings with a quiet long firelane across the board with the center objective in it. The left side objective also had a pretty big open area with a crate in it. It was a crowded table but still some long lanes at a few places. The right objective was on a small hill but there was no action at it at all during the whole game.

I lost the iniative roll and my opponent chose the iniative option so I got deployment. I chose the side with the objective on the hill closest to me since I didn't want that big open area as the objective closest to me. My opponent got to deploy first and chose that he start.

Deployment
He started with everything spread out pretty much evenly accros his side of the table behind some buildings. The veteran was near the middle and the Trakktor was on the right side. The sniper and basic hmg troop was to the left.

I deployed similair with link team #4 in the left corner behind a building, team #2 and #3 near the middle fire lane and #1 behind a building at the right corner so they could go for an easy grab on that objective. The diplomat and chaksa was behind a building near the middle. Everything was behind buildings so when he went up on his first turn I didn't get any aros, bad placment by me.

First Turn
Opponent
He started with moving upp some cammo markers to the right side objective and moving up the Trakktor closer to it aswell. His basic troop with HMG went forward to the crate in the open area placing an suppresion fire marker at the corner of the building where team #4 was. The rest of the orders were spent on moving various troops in better positions to give him aros. He didn't try to recover the information on this turn.

Me
For some reason I never realised that I could climb on top of the building with team #4 so instead I decided to shoot the model that had placed the suppresion fire to remove the it. To do that I had to move up team #3. I moved them up the middle killing a tank hunter and then shooting the hmg model. It went unconciouss and the suppresion fire was gone, so I used the Gao-Rael in team #4 to shoot at his sniper and some other troop. Hit the other troop and it wen unconciouss, but the Gao-Rael got hit by the sniper. Made the armour save but lost the guts, tried to shoot the sniper and same thing happend.

I was unsure about what to do next so spent one order on team #1 to move them a bit closer to the right side objective and throwing smoke there. However I realised then that it was easier to go for the middle objective instead. Using team #3 I throwed out some smoke at the middle and then used the diplomat to move up and check which objective I needed to go to. It was the middle objective but I was out of orders in combat group #2 because I wasted them on the gao real in team #4.

My last orders went to moving the #3 team up furher and trying to recover the info but failed.

Second Turn
Opponent
My diplomat was down shoot dead instatly and then he used his Trakktor to try to shoot the Makaul in team #3, since the other two members were out of sight. I used my aro drop some smoke but I was sloppy and said that I dropped it on him without checking how it covered the rest of the team. I won the ftf roll but the smoke placing was a bit off so the Kamael hacker was just outside it. He then used his veteran to kill the Kamael.

Then he used his doctor to heal the two troops I had shoot with the gao-rael in team #4 and also placing a new suppresion fire. The last few orders were spent on moving an engineer to the left objective analyzing it and finding out that his data objective was the one to the right.
Me
I removed the link on #1 to use the impeatous orders to move them closer to the middle. After moving them I spent the LT order to reform the same link again. The Makuul from team #3 was also impeatous so I let him run forward and throwing smokes to block his two models from having los to the middle. The trakktor didn't get any aro though since it was blocked by the objective. My opponent shoot with his two models so it was two seperate ftf rolls. I won one but lost the other one, also failed the armour save so the Makaul went unconciouss and his Trakktor and veteran still had los to the middle.

Throwed some smoke at the middle but it left a small gap and as I moved team #2 towards the middle and the Kameal hacker in that team in los of his Trakktor. It got hit and killed but everything else survided. The Kamaels death meant that I had to get the Kumotail in team#1 to the middle but I still didn't know what the cammo markers near the right objective was. I decide to go for it and he never declared any aros with the cammo markers. However I had missed that the Trakktor had los through some windows. It missed and deviated on top of the poor Gao-Rael in tem #4. And ofcourse the guy made the armour roll and failed his guts.

Team #1 was close to the middle now but their still was some stuff in the way. I had three options, shoot them with the Ectros who was in optimal range, throw smoke with the Makaul or just run for it. I decided to shoot them with the Ectros, tried twice and all 6 rolls that needed 13 rolled 16+. I rolled three 20... Ended up with one wound on the Ectros Being low on orders I let team #1 just run for it. Later it turned out that I had shoot against his LT so the game could have turned completly if I had killed him. The Trakktor hit the Sakiel but the Kumotail was out of the blast, it did wound both the Makaul and Sakiel though. The Sakiel took another hit aswell so they were both down. Moved the Kumotail up to the objective but not over the smoke as planned so it got some aros against it. It died as I spent my last order and downloaded the info.

Still had the orders left in combat group #2 and used them to try to shoot the hmg and sniper guy. Didn't hit anything and the Gao-Rael died to aros.

Third Turn
Opponent
My opponent hadn't any engineers near the right objective so he decided it was easier to steal mine. It was clear that I was in retreat but some of the figures were most likely to far to make be able to move them all out. My opponent spent his turn moving killing of the Ectros and some of my remaing figures near the middle but keeping enough so that I couldn't get them of the board in my next turn. Did kill the Trakktor with an aro though but the Ectros kept rolling crappy on all aros. Surving troops from me was a Gao-Rael and a Makaul near the middle and the two Kamaels in team #4.

Me
In retreat but couldn't get all of my troops out. Made a misstake also by moving out the only troop near the middle that could have gotten meaningful aros, the gao-rael in team#3.

Foruth Turn
Opponent
Even if I hadn't done the misstake of retreating with the Gao-Rael instead of the Makaul it was obvious that my opponent would be able to do the upload unless he was really unlucky. He started with going after and killing my remaing Kamael hacker so I woudn't get any chance to aro the upload. That left one Makaul on the board, since it was completly out of range he had free reign of the middle objective. He sent an engineer to pickup the data my hacker dropped and succeded the upload on the first attempt.

Misstakes I made
Diplomat in wrong combat group costed me a lot
Some wasted orders in first turn on team #1 and #4
Team #4 could have climbed to the roof of the building avoiding the suppresion fire
To few good aro weapons and support units in the list, no long range. A clipso/gao rael sniper or Ectros with HMG would have done wonders against that Trakktor.

Some funny stuff
The Gao-Rael how constantly made his armour save and then failed his guts, think that guy had lot of poop in his pants. Also got hit by the Trakktor from across the board when it deviated.
The 7+ rolls that rolled 16+ to shoot with the Ectros viral rifle. If that guy hadn't died I'm pretty sure the rest of the squad would have shoot him themselves. And most of the shoots were against the opponents LT aswell.
Overall I rolled 8 or so 20s and lot of other 15+ rolls, the dice are new so not sure if something wrong with them. To bad it wasn't DnD...

It was one of the most fun games I had in a while and it was quiet even. Got 3 objective points and my opponet got 5, not to shabby but if I hadn't made some misstakes I might have won. Will play 102 sometime next week and hopefully not make the same misstakes. And I will take pictures :)

Was really tired and forgot the camera(bad bad me), it was a really uneventful game though, guess that can happen with two heavy smoke teams(alpeh and tohaa)

I won inative and chose to start. Went to the closest objective, found that the info was in the middle, downloaded the info but out of orders to back the egineer away. Opponent used Ajax to smash my engineer to bits and downloaded the info with an egineer from them objective that he then backed away. Ajax got hit by a crit adhesive and bacame a very expensive los blocker.
Second turn: The opponent had two myrms with los to the dead engineer so spent some orders on killing them. Then had just enough orders to use my diplomat to pick the info up from the dead engineer, go to the baggage bot and upload it.
Won and it was a bit tense since it came down to some wip rolls decideing everything but also a bit boring beacuse very little pew pew and only 2 turns.
