Alternate Models

So I know that most of us love the infinity models, but a little variation is never a bad thing, so I thought 'd start a thread for alternate models. I'll start with a couple from mantic:

These would be good dakini tactbot stand ins. The guy with the sword also makes a reasonable patroclus/achilles, and the far right would be a good ekdromoi.
Note that you can also buy a blister of just the dakini ones, which also come with a potential HMG model.

The sniper would make a good dasyu, and the engineer a naga minelayer.
I'm also sure the rocket launcher guy could be useful, but not sure for what.

Some of their scenery also looks pretty good for infinity, with a fair bit of it blocking line of sight.

Are you perhaps a promoter hired by Mantic?

The problem with the Battlezone terrain is that it looks too "miltech". Infinity to me is all about clandestine operations, shadow ops, hijackings, data thefts, etc. These don't usually happen right in the heart of an enemy fortified stronghold. And if it did, there wouldn't be a random assortment of 10 or so different toop types, there would be tens, if not hundreds of regular G.I Joes.

TL;DR: Mantic Battlezones are good for for fortified military outpost, most scenarios in Infinity don't happen in fortified military outposts.

Mantic's stuff also suits hastily assembled or TEMPORARILY assembled utility habs. Like the prefabs used for site control on construction sites. Not every building or "mission site" is going to be in the middle of a congested city. There are bound to be black bag jobs on the outskirts, in the hinterlands and on mine sites/archaeological dig sites.

These are pretty good for those, as well. Prefab modules that can be slotted together to make the structure you NEED for the time you are there - that can be broken back down and shipped off again and reused as needed.

That's what I use my plasticraft games stuff as. Prefab demountables.

Or abandoned military bases. Or ship interiors if you build a full table of it, with a mat to match. Or some industrial complex (Icestorm anyone?). Or... we can keep on, it's just a matter of imagination.

Lots of official and non official products would be in the same situation. But yes, being the 1st post, just after joining, in a generic place (Terrain? Retailers? Reviews?)...

Haha, I knew as soon as I posted what that would look like. I can unsure you I have no links whatsoever with any miniatures company, other than as a customer.

To be honest I didn't even look at off topic. The Description suggests to me that anything infinity related shouldn't be in there.

As for whether or not battle zone terrain should be used, I think it can't represent than ust a military base, as others have suggested. Also, I wouldn't be averse to playing in a military base. Maybe there is some sort of sabotage going on? Or it is the start of the CA assault?

Trying to look for some more models, all I can find is the old vindicate assassin (without the pistol ), which could serve as a fair few sniper models.

I'm sure some of the warmachine models could function mad suitable TAGs though I'm not sure othe exact size, so can't suggest a specific model. Maybe the mentor avatar for the marut. I'll post links later.

In my opinion it is not the right forum part for the topic.

I guess it would be far more appropriate if it was in Miniatures, as you tend to concentrate on models (the mention of terrain was only a short one). If you don't have anything against, I'll move it there.

Regarding the Battlezones terrain - I agree, it should do fine as modular research base / advanced outpost / industrial installation / military base stuff. It has that look. Just don't get it as tight as the Mantic tends to suggest in their pictures of urban sectors, and it'd be OK.

The avatar is a different style, but I think it could still work. The vindicare would be a great variable model, since he can basically be any sniper. He could perhaps be thought of as a mercenary.

If you are a WarmaHordes player convinced to try Infinity, I'd not bother against such substitution. But for regular play I'd insist on 55mm base and suggest something more mechanime rather than steampunkish.

@M2cat. Well the base size shouldn't be a problem (just buy a spare base ), but see what you mean about the steam punk vs anime. How would you feel about a whole army done in a steam punk style?

I'm looking for some miniatures that I dont like their range of infinity. The uberfallkcommando of nomads, the chimera I really like, but pupniks are very rare ....

I've been looking pretty, but I haven't found anything. Anyone have any idea that could simulate some alternative pupniks?

That's all i've found it. Removing a incredible miniatures from Wrath of Kings, but i just found a very limited stock and very expensive, in CMOM.

All comixininos and the taban links are broken. But I see "willy". Have you seen the general scale of Willy Miniatures? They are famous for compensating something linked to the brand name.

Or the sizes of many of the ones you pasted over the originals? 3 use cavalry bases, minotaur is big, other two could also be big. Even with the size increase by CB, I don't think many will be a good fit for pupniks. Maybe for new antipodes or cameronians or new dog warriors.

Well i think the "hounds" can work well in a scenery base, just reposing.

The wolfens i suppose they are like dogwarriors, agreed, but with the silouete rules, it has not to be a problem.
The minoutare i think he will be too much, you are right.
Maybe with a standard beastmen from willy?
Or i will try with another wolfen, a female may be. Eitherways I want a pupnicks bigger than the chimera, but not completely out of scale, like minotaur.

What do you think of the hounds concept?

The Confrontation Wulfen models are way too big, even the female Wulfen are on 40mm square bases and are ~40mm+ tall.

The West Wind models should be closer to the 25mm-base-size that we need for the pupniks (because I totally want another Chimera, male version this time, with a different set of pupniks)

I'm tempted to get Anvil Industries' Stim Hounds:


Not sure whether I'm going to use them as Kuang Shi or as pupniks.

Effigy sculpts back! Yay! It seems they got the full scifi catalog. 3 skin tight suit girls, 2 civilians, 5 soldiers, 2 flying turkeys... I mean, drones. I think that was all avaliable back then.

Rogue has some good ideas there. The apprentice put a lot of weight latelly, tho. I would also need to see them just primed, or better painted, to compare.

Yeah, I was very happy to see them back, too, since I missed them the first time around.

You can get the Master and the Apprentice separately, and I think I would grab one of the Hasslefree kids (Beth or Alyx) instead of Rogue's Apprentice.

Shame that Rogue has so few unarmed models...

I mean something else to replace them with like watch dogs/robots or something. Having ex con suicide bombers just doesn't fit the merc theme I got going for my YuJing, even though the minis itself kinda start to grow on me.
