Luxury Living in the Human Sphere: What does it look like?

Hey Folks,

My gaming group is starting work on our first official Infinity Table, which is going to be based in a luxury district in some part of the Human Sphere. Most likely this will take on a Neo Terran or Upper Class Yu Jing look, and I'm trying to find some source material to help with some style decisions like color, catwalk placement, types of buildings, etc...

Is there any official artwork out there that would outline what a city in the Human Sphere would look like? I remember seeing a few pictures, like a Myrmidon being jumped by a Shasvastii, or Bao doing their *ahem* police work, but I wasn't able to find any wide angle shots of a city center or residential area.

Anything that the community can help me dig up would be fantastic!

Cities in Infinity look just like cities today only with Hexagons.

Honestly its such a big world you can do what ever you like. You can easily do Berverly Hills or St. Tropez. Just let modern architecture inspire you.

Maybe look to dense cities in Japan for inspiration? Lots of high-rise luxury penthouses overlooking the rest of the packed bustling city?

Edit: next to that.. look around at cities from Cyberpunk works. That's a bit like Infinity's source of inspiration

Thanks for the tips guys. I suppose architecture may not change a whole lot in the next 175 years or so, but then again, with the half life of technology it very well may.

@Scorch: I was seriously considering some of Systema's terrain for a side project as their stuff looks incredibly functional, and if they're bringing out something more posh, I'm super excited.

I would imagine high class architecture wont change much. Look at bauhaus. That stuff is still pretty update today. The most difference will probably be in the materials and details, but you can't incorporate this in a game table anyways.

Fun idea btw: swimming pools. So those aquatic terrain skills get some use.

There's definitely going to be a fountain in the center of the table, that much we have decided.

And... a commuter train.

We ordered a Kum Garage from Warsenal which we are going to turn into like a kart rental place, akin to golf karts for getting around, and are looking for an easy to work solution for walkways with that lovely, futuristic, hexagon tileset.

I think the running plan right now is to have a few bigger condo buildings with pedways between them to add a multi-level playing space to the board. I know Warsenal now has walkways in their Comanche line, but do you guys know of any manufacturers making less militaristic looking ones? I'm not opposed to scratch building, but if someone's making them for not much more than it'll cost to scratch build them it'll make things easier.

Its been years since I've watched Ghost in the Shell, and I haven't seen all of Appleseed as it stands. Something about short attention spans, but those are great places to look. Thanks!

Just thought I'd make a reference on colors, since you did mention that.

From what art I've seen there seems to be a lot of steel, concrete and glass construction in the human sphere so having a base grey to your buildings would probably be a good start. for accent colors it kind of depends where you would want to put things.
for Pan O I would think fairly subtle color additions, pale colors, pastels, black and white and bit of the traditional panO blue.
For Yu Jing, definitely accents in red, almost all Asian cultures consider red to be good luck, with some added gold, especially for a swanky district with maybe some jade elements to represent the jade emporium or whatever Yu Jing is supposed to mean, I cant remember.
For Haqqislam I would expect more white in a swanky district, the buildings kept clean and freshly painted, probably a lot ot tiled mosaics and that sort of thing, blue and brown are traditionally popular popular colors in these, the traditions of the desert make anything to do with water tied to wealth so blue is considered a very swanky color.
if you're on one of the nicer modules of the nomads, I would think to see a lot of neon even in the fancier areas and a lot of direct sensory overload.
and finally for Ariadna, I would probably suggest a metropolitan Merovingia style, for a swanky district look to places like Victoria BC Hollywood California or any other fancy part of the west coast in north America for what fancy new world modern era would look like.

If not, model on say Denmark or the Netherlands. Specifically, Rotterdam.
Maybe I'm biased because this is my city but really.. we have so many awesome futuristic buildings.

Helps that the city has had to rebuild the city center from the ground up in the last century..

I would try to model in what can make nice tables while looking good, and what fits the fluff. Future societies... heh... Infinity is the wrong time line for that.

Cars are going to play a bit of an effect. 2 seater hover carts, future country club style. Will take a look at architecture in Denmark though. I appreciate it.

A long and detailed post about coloring

This is very valuable information. Color is going to be quite a big factor here. We're looking at having well kept yards and common areas, so grass and foliage will be present. Accenting in light blue or a purple was on my mind to stand out against the greenery. Much thanks for the breakdown by faction. This is going to make a big difference.

I can't help but notice that Scenery Planet hasn't been mentioned in this thread, and needs to be. They make insanely awesome (and probably insanely expensive) custom tables for Infinity and other games. I know of at least 2 that would fit nicely in here:
