Official Forums Will Not Be Closing Down Tomorrow...

CB has listened to us and is keeping the forums open. This is awesome and will bring the community together more I think.

I was starting to really like these forums better, anyway. The folks running it have been so much more responsive to technical problems and have been adapting the forums to fit our needs at a heroic rate. I was pleased to see that CB had the courage and forethought to see their own weaknesses and put their energy into what they want to do well/focus on (ie. the game), and I'm distressed by this backtracking.

I don't agree with this at all. While I think DS is a fine forum, I never had any problems with the official forums aside from the Warcors updating snafu. Yeah they respond to some of these problems slowly, but I still feel more comfortable with "official" forums than fan made ones. There's just something more connecting about them, I guess.

Hopefully, they will step up and manage their forums better after this episode with the forum switching...

I had and continue to have technical issues with the official forums. DataSphere has not failed to load responsively once yet. Now that a bunch of people have migrated here and started to settle in, but the old forum is staying open, this may actually splinter the community more than ever.

Yeah, pretty immature move. I don't believe it will have a bad effect, like closing the forum would have, but not to think of this first option in the first place, or god forbid just ask the forum, what they think.

I am pretty surprised that so many people are cool and thankful with this. Its like taking candy of a child and giving it back as a gift. Huh!

Data Sphere will continue to do what it's been doing: provide third party companies a place to post their stuff and engage with the community. The blog will continue to be updated with the latest news and articles. In fact, CB has pledged their continuing support to our cause and will continue to provide us with scoops and exclusives as we go on.

I don't appreciate the way CB has gone about this thing, but they HAVE listened to the community. They have also been very gracious in the way they apologized to us for how this has gone down.

All in all, Data Sphere has been put on the map. I'm not complaining, really. Onwards and upwards!

Yeah. I think it's good that they listened, but I think that the entire thing was handled poorly. They made a sudden announcement that they were shutting down, and then made an even more sudden announcement that they weren't.

Hopefully they take some of this to heart and invest in some good communication management.

What? "Thank you" CB, next time do it before I expend all the time mirroring it so some people can preserve what they wrote. I asked Koni about plans for keeping or archiving it (and DS & IW about how to host that)... only got silence (and shrugs "check with CB"), not even a "we are busy" or "hold on", so went ahead trying to avoid those other users the worst, a read only that didn't allow read much.

Completly botched proctocols when it comes to communication and tech planning. Bunch of brats.

Oh, BTW, just checked, other forum using same software reports a record of over 9000 (ha... ha...) currently serving 80 users and 700 guests. Just for those that want to raise (again) that it wasn't possible to get stable service.

Personally, I'll probably be keeping my email subscriptions on the old forum to keep an eye on things, but staying primarily on DS. It just plain works better...

I said you "come across like", not "are". Just yesterday, in the thread about spaceship corridors, I tought we agreed links help. With such important news even more so, there is plenty of speculation going on in past weeks ("in N3 weapon X changes to ...") taken as facts (it should had been "for N3 I wish weapon X ...") even before "chinese whispers" start rolling.

It sure make everyone's life easier by not needing to guess who, when, where, why, etc. Or by making clear it's not a prank or a troll.

I'm weirded out by CBs backpaddling, to be honest.

On the one hand, I think it is a great thing to listen to your customers and the community. It needs some courage to say "hey, we were wrong, but the wrong decision will not stand". So keeping the forums open, even if only as a reaction to the previous outcry, is a thing I support. I also think it is a good thing for CB to have an official forum of their own.

On the other hand: dammit, think BEFORE you act, fools! This comes across as extremely unprofessional, and as if no thought at all went into the whole affair. "Two wrongs don't make a right" or so they say.I can only shake my head in disbelief...

So while I like the result, the process leading to it was a PR disaster. CB really needs to get a professional for their communication and community support.

I guess I will keep the official forums on "lurk mode", and keep my activity to DS and WarSeer.


P.S.: I don't get the accusation of Guges being called a troll, that was completely unnecessary in my opinion.

Despite Guges supposed reputation, it's not cool to just call him a troll. Even if you think he's out of line (which I wouldn't agree with in this instance!) Just sayin', there's far more elegant ways to disagree with someone.

Levitas has used my favourite meme well: I'll be frequenting both boards, those obviously I'll be focusing on Data Sphere.
