Is Your Group Running Paradiso Campaign?

So first off, how does the forum specifically meant for discussing Infinity, on an Infinity-related forum, not have any threads in it???



So is your group running the Paradiso Campaign at the moment? Ours is just starting out. This Sunday we will be playing Scenario 1-02. I had a lot of fun with the first scenario, even though I lost. I actually tied on Victory Points, but my opponent won the tie based on models killed.

So are you playing the campaign? And what are your thoughts on it so far?

We're trying to, but having some difficulty finding a 4th participant.... and scheduling is le suck right now (hooray busy season!). I have the markers, the train, and the will... just not the bodies. I don't want to run it with three, you know?

We would like too, but for some reason the momentum after the book has slowed down. A few have even gone back to playing YAMs. But I'm sure it's on the cards and we are fortunate enough to have the numbers.

We tried to work out a system that allows for players coming and going. As in " I can't make todays campaign, my dog exploded". But never sorted anything.

Let's see... Paradiso came out and then funeral, Thanksgiving, vacation, Christmas, Wedding, New Years, busy season. I went almost 6 weeks without going to my FLGS (at the worst, I can usually go twice per month). Combine that with other people's schedules, etc... ::le sigh:: I wanted to try to get 8 people in the league, but I think that would be too overwhelming. Between teaching, scheduling, and the associated bookkeeping, I think it would be better to run a four-person campaign several times, or two campaigns in parallel, rather than one giant one.

EDIT: The good news about Paradiso is, it appears easy to run... once you start it (John, Steve, play 1-03 by next Saturday, go!).

Well, if you wanted to drive to York, PA every Sunday you could always join our Paradiso group.

We're still working on building our lists to 300 points and getting all the appropriate markers, terrain, and of course get enough games in to have rules down pat. Then we'll probably start Paradiso. I can't wait!

I grew up in Ohio near Dayton. Anyways like Levitas said our group ran outta steam we have a lot of players and a lot of varying schedules. But we are doing our 1st ITS tourney this Sat so thats awesome

Definitely a good idea. Especially make sure you're up on Hacking and Engineers for a lot of the scenarios.

Paradiso is alive and well in Colorado. There's 2 well organized campaigns going on at the moment that I know of.

We have an ongoing Paradiso league in Warsaw, like 4 groups of 4 players each. I had to drop out because I had no mind for wargames ATM, but still.

We're running with eight players but have only just finished chapter one due to scheduling issues and a generally busy period...

Our 'group' consists of two of us that are trying out the missions one by one! We've yet to get to mission 102 though, which will hopefully be in the next week or two.

I was working on trying to get the campaign going in my area, but some players just didn't want to commit. However, since then we've had a 4+ new players pop up and im working them up to 300pts and learning the rules so after that will try again to get the campaign going.

Mine started this past week.
I'm running campaign rounds on a fortnightly turnaround. Gives all the involved players 2 weeks to play their games, THEN the next round starts.
I've got to play my game (against Scarecrow) on the 15th.

I played the train scenario again, and it was fun. But when my players (the first time) wanted to jump in after only understanding the very basics of the game, they got overwhelmed and gave in after 3 -4 rounds.

Paradiso feels to me like a more in-depth look at the possibilities in the game. An icing on the cake as it were. You start small (O:I might be good start), choose and army and start collecting some, play couple of games, some more, some more, and when everybody is getting around a bit more with the rules, their army, the models, you start with Paradiso, showing them ALL the possibilities Infinity has to offer (the focus on baggage remotes for example is great imo). After Paradiso your whole group will come out stronger and more knowledgable about their options with their armies. I think Paradiso will actually improve the overall listbuilding creativity in the end.

Our group's first time with the campaign crashed just after starting Chapter 3.

A year later, 4 of us were able to get through the campaign. It started out enthusiastic but it definitely felt like a concerted effort for a couple of us halfway through, just wanting to get our campaign game over with so we could play some regular games during the weekly sessions.

Hasn't been much interest in going back since. I think, if we did try it again, there'd definitely be some house rules needed to make the whole thing a bit more palatable.

Are the campaign missions that different from palying yams or its?

My group wants to start the campaign this month with 1-2 games a month.
We played a lot of games, well there are still some minor rule issues but the ground is made.

Do you have any tips for playing the missions?
Where do you see problems with bringing the whole thing to an end?

This is kinda interessting for me, because i don't play that long, i was more in collecting and assembling infinity models till this year.

Yes, the missions are so different.

For a start, so many disallow AD3, infiltrate, mechanised deployment, impersonate that you may as well not take them in the list (no biggie for me, I play neoterra - what's an infiltrator?). Really gimps ariadna, though.

You also are meant to READ the mission first, THEN do the lists. You are encouraged to build for the mission (which you can't do for ITS and generally don't for YAMS, either).

You need absolute commitment from ALL your players (preferably a multiple of 4 - due to the way mission matchups are done, 4, 8, 16, etc players is the best way to run it. Not saying you can't run it with an uneven number, but it's definitely easier with a multiple of 4.
