Comparisons are never pointless and limiting the topics we discuss only narrows our view of the hobby.

Mantic is pretty awesome, damn cheap stuff, and getting better at making it.
More power to them I say.
As for copying.. I've seen at least one CB minie that made an appearence in a Manga If it looks nice, who cares if it's 100% original.

Being influenced by something outside of the tabletop world is fine. Many of us love to see media from a variety of sources on the tabletop.

Blatantly copying something someone has already turned into a tabletop model is just cheap.

It's one thing for people to yank sales away from GW to make "space marine" like stuff. It's another to just blatantly copy another company's design.

Mantic continues to produce crappy products. Copying one of the weaker Infinity designs just adds to that.

You could say they look like a Marut HMG and to me they might look more like the weapons from the Star Trek reboot or Mass Effect Geth weapons.





The Mantic weapons may share similar shapes but they are different enough that I don't think it matters.

I saw these pop up on my news feed this morning and my first thought was; 'Hey, they look kinda like tac-bots. Cool.' I didn't feel the need to race off to the forums to slag off another designer.

I don't quite understand how you can feel it's appropriate to accuse another company of plagiarism, while at the same time running a campaign encouraging CB to do the same with another designer's work.

This. And I looked long and hard, and couldn't find a whole lot of similarity. Might as well accuse CB of copying call of duty with their Ariadna weapons...

Scifi weapons have common design elements, because many people have similar ideas of what looks futuristic. That's all there is to it, really.

Let's be real... Mantic's whole thing is pastiche. No one should be shocked that their models aren't the most inspired on the market. And frankly I don't care what else they do as long as they expand on their hard plastic terrain line, which seems to have a great deal of potential!

Copying from other media is fine. How awesome would it be if CB made an Armored Core looking TAG? Seems that's what the new Squalo will be.

Copying from people who have already turned other media into miniatures is cheap. There are enough ideas out there, find some of your own. Sadly Mantic has cornered the market on giving people who love GW games a cheap alternative.

Might be if it was a blatant copy. I still fail to see the striking similarities between the models that seem to have you up in arms. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong model, any chance you could cut out the bit you're annoyed with and compare it to the Marut weapon?

Given that a lot of models were designed using CAD, there really isn't much difference between being inspired by video game/movie art and making a model.

I think this became the iconic KARASAWA look, that got into all the later ACs. The Marut one has the angle I guess, but not the stabiliser(?) things. I kind of see it now.

Do Armoured Core models exist? Yes. Does film/comic property like Deadpool exist as a licensed miniature? Yes.

There's a big difference between a negative discussion and a bad discussion. Too many people on these forums think that negative means bad. Maybe if there was more negative, we'd get better results from our gaming companies... that would be good.

The more I think about it, though, the more I realize that if Mantic does copy CB more, we could have cheap plastic Infinity models to use in the future. That wouldn't be so bad...

They look almost nothing alike outside of a vaguely similar outline, and even that is a pretty big stretch.
...If that is all it takes to be a copy, then Infinity has copied almost every gun in the game from other miniatures products.

Even at a glance, the scalloped design of the Mantic guns immediately and quite clearly looks very different.

If we decide to actually compare detailing too, well, then they are nothing alike.
...and you may need glasses (or an updated prescription).
