Ah ok, I see the resemblance. would say its Gosling from Drive though. I completely forgot about Max, because he is the ugliest mercenary available, and not a regular release either.

More intrigue is available to that particular universe. Which leads to more avenues for story telling.

Appleseed is much more classic scifi, dealing with utopian issues and such, while Ghost in the Shell is straight up Cyber Punk.
I just read both mangas for the first time, and they are really good. Like I wrote a lot more funny than the films would suggest (goes for both series). At least the original ones. Haven't read the later GitS releases yet.

I think they both have a lot of meat to them, just different kinds of meat. Appleseed is more political and dealing with the ramifications of technology on our society. Ghost in the Shell is also super political, but it's about intrigue on a more personal level and deals with metaphysical themes that Appleseed doesn't really broach. Appleseed is also more macro in scale while Ghost in the Shell is far more personal and detail oriented. There is also more material for Ghost in the Shell because it was a longer series and Shirow Masamune has never added to the original cannon which he did do for Ghost in the Shell.

He does more than pinup art, he seems to do a lot of work for various magazines, or the various prepaid phone cards, that kind of thing.

But it's so weird that he hasn't worked any further on Appleseed, and that was what he called his "life's work". I halfway suspect that his drawing style has changed so much since the 1980s that any further Appleseed stories just don't look right.

It even changed quite a bit between Appleseed Book 1 and Book 4. If you look at the later Appleseed stories he did, like for Hypernotes, his style matches more of the MMI style than the early Appleseed style.

Maybe it's a good thing though because MMI was really preachy and metaphysical without much of a story you could care about.

I can definitely see where you're coming from. I think it's that personal level of plot and drama that lends itself well to movie/series release. Appleseed is just on the other side of "feasible to tell this story within 3 hours" from what I'm gathering.

Either way, I want a tachikoma that isn't piloted... oh wait, Tsyklon Sputniks.

Now if only I could run an army of the Maghariba and a bunch of Tsyklons...

The reason I went the the Aquila Guard is because that helmet looks an awful lot like what Bri wears when he's armored up. I think it's in the 2004 movie where you see it first, and then you see it again in Ex Machina shortly before Bri jumps out of the ... Yellowjacket(?) transport at the big summit meeting.

What I really want is a nice big-bodied model to abuse for Bri in his civvies. Leather motorcycle jacket and all.

If you really want to give yourself a headache, Ghost in the Shell is about 100 years before Appleseed, they're in the same universe!

Finished watching this on Friday. I started looking for models to convert for this almost right away.

I agree that Briareos is closest to the Aquila HMG. I was looking at the Chandra Spec Ops from Aleph as Deunan. Of course this started me down the path of which force would allow me to field them both. I guess Capitaline sectorial here I come.

I honestly consider most of the Spec-Ops to be nearly interchangeable. Besides, I hate the Fusiliers (and the PanO combirifle). That said, as important as Olympus seems to be in the Appleseed world, Olympus=PanO, not Aleph.

Also, the new Bolts with a bit of helmet modification should work for the security forces from the first image.

Briareos was blown up, recruited by Olympus and given a full cyborg body and in turn recruits Deunan without once bothering to send her so much as an email. It introduces major plot holes (although, seriously, what anime/manga doesn't have gaping plot holes*).

It introduces major plot holes (although, seriously, what anime/manga doesn't have gaping plot holes*).

Not a major one, IMO. It doesn't change the fact that the two are currently inseparable, and even though Bri is now full-body prosthetic she still loves who he is on the inside. There were some other changes, too, but I consider a lot of that to be simplifications because they just didn't have the time to tell the story as written in the manga. Like the Lord of the Rings movies, you gotta understand the limits of your media.
