My New Terrain Supply e-Shop, Mini Foam Studio

Hey everyone! I have been a member of the CB Infinity forums for a while, but I wanted to come over here to let you all know about a little e-shop I just opened called Mini Foam Studio (http://www.minifoam.com). The site is in its infancy at the moment, but I am currently taking pre-orders for a small selection of products, and should be fulfilling orders in mid September.



My goal for the store is to sell bricks and blocks made of foam that you can use to create terrain quickly and easily. I intend to expand my products over the first couple months and offer a wide variety of useful items for terrain projects.



I appreciate any support you guys can give in checking out the site and helping me get the word out.

You know it's funny - I have like six hexagon shaped parts on the store site, but the tool to make the hexagons is WAY more expensive than the rectangular shapes, so I'm holding off a little on buying it until I (hopefully) generate some sales to help pay for it... Maybe I should have done that the other way around ;-)

So anyway, I should have hex shapes in several thicknesses on the store very soon!

Hi and welcome to the Sphere. What kind of density is the foam you are using?

It varies depending upon the product - the foam I am using for the 0.5" thick "blocks" and 0.25" thick "bricks" is 15# (pcf). The 0.125" thick is 20#, and the facing material is 30#. In my opinion, different foams I use feel really nice and high quality - much better than styrene foamular type products. They tend to be a little more expensive, but I personally believe that the cut edges give a really neat texture when you prime them, and really look like concrete, bricks, etc.

P.S. I should be adding photos of the foams to my store this weekend, which should let you get a better feel for the materials and look at how the cell structure of the foams can make a terrain project look professional with just a coat of primer.

I'm not all that experienced with working with foam; does your product have any issues with absorbing paint?

Not in my experience - I have used grey Armory spray primer to paint all the types of foam I sell on the site, and it stuck without absorbing. Beyond that, I have had no problem painting on top of the primer, but I have mostly been using spray primers and an airbrush to paint.
