"The Department" is a film-noir scifi investigation and skirmish game.
Yes, I said investigation. So there are some missions where you are either questioning folks on the street or arresting them to interrogate back at the station. And there are other missions where you're doing a full-on SWAT assault.
I think it would make a great subgame for Imperial Service or Bakunin players.
The interesting twist for The Department is that each player normally controls ONE character on the board, and all the civilians/NPCs are controlled by a response grid.
The normal campaign progression requires you to get enough of the proper kinds of evidence before you can move on to the next mission. There is also a limit on how hard you can question the suspects. Get too many successes and your witness clams up! As a police game, there is also a limit on lethal force that makes the investigator's job more interesting.
I am still working out a mechanical conversion from the GOAL System used by the Department to the Infinity dice system. The good news is that the goal system uses face to face rolls. The bad news is that it uses multiple dice instead of the single die used in much of Infinity.
