Guessing the range of mines

by Prophet_of_Doom » November 23rd, 2015, 12:59 am

Once thing that have bugged me since N3 is the triggering of mines. The N3 rules simply state that a mine must go off once an enemy model executes an order or ARO inside its trigger area. However, we have to guess the range. In many cases, the enemy model or marker will get very close to the trigger area, so you cannot be 100% sure whether it is indeed inside. What happens if I declare the mine goes off but checking it with the template reveals that the enemy trooper was still outside the trigger range? Have I simply revealed that my marker was indeed a mine and is still active?

In N2 this was not an issue, because the owning player could choose to trigger the mine. Not being able to have this choice make the mines less powerful (maybe intended) and leaves me with this question.

The mine doesn't explode and is not revealed but still a camo marker. Ofc the opponent knows it's a mine now ;-)

You could always measure the ZoC of the mine as an excuse? That's kinda weird, though.

thanks for the answers. I thought the template was also 8 inches long.
Ok, it seems like there is no good answer on this one. A bit of a messy afair. The only example I can think of were N2 did cover a hole in the rules which N3 opens.
