CLICK HERETO LISTEN: MayaCast Episode 13: Interview with Bostria

Right .... here is a brief overview.

  • USAriadna is NOT coming out tomorrow but you will see new profiles in N3.
  • Combined Army is the big 'winner' for newest amount of profiles and possible new models because of said profiles.
  • No one faction gets a big bump thanks to N3 its as well rounded as they could manage. Except see previous comment about Combined Army new profiles.
  • No mention of Exrah but not real question directed at it. Previous comments more of less touch of the backfilling of old profiles to offset the loss of Exrah.
  • N3 - Slight delay as we know due to printing.
  • English and Spanish version first off the press 10000 copies in total assumingly split between the two langauges.
  • Bostria expects the first book/s at CB HQ sometime this week Tuesday/Wednesday perhaps followed hopefully but some sort of short unveiling/opening/short doco about it.
  • New Army Builder 5 will be HTML not flash and have a PC, IOS (insert your device here) version.
  • Expect the New Army Builder 5 in January. Use your book a pad and pen until then!
  • New Army Builder 5 will have a HUGE amount of new features built into it perhaps at release or maybe over time to help the company collect META data but also to help you track your own win/loss/ownership of models/factions and other such things.
  • Key point at the end was Bostria reiterating that the team is 100% behind making the best game thats well rounded, fun and inclusive NOT one that sells or is designed to force people to buy erroneous material or models. The core concept they are building the business on is a game that's well rounded, fun and inclusive will sell because its all of those things and needs no pressure tactics to increase sales.

That about rounds it out.

Discuss!

I've seen some comments about CB focusing on selling minis, not making a well balanced game. I disagree to say the least, it's nice to see the company claiming to do exactly opposite.

I'm also hyped about new Army Builder, but I'm not fond of apps tracking my metadata. I like to have control over it as much as possible. Oh well, one can dream, welcome to XXI century. I'm very interested in those new functions.

All in all great news.

Might be opt in or opt out.

Bostria just mentioned that 'Jesús' was looking at adding features that would allow people to track things.

That would in turn be useful to CB whether or not its there is very much up in the air I would withhold judgement until real solid information comes out and the program is released.

I like the sound of the army builder being accessible of mobile devices. its the only thing I miss after my migration from iPhone to Samsung.

No, new builder is NOT flash based, so iOS devices WILL be able to run it (so will android). Apple is NOT adopting Flash, more things are moving AWAY from it.

It's HTML5, which is having its growing pains. While it will work across more devices than flash, it's also still in its infancy in terms of support for stuff like this. It's always better to go native app. However, if there's no option, and you can't afford to develop for 3 platforms simultaneously, HTML5 is still a good option.

But (CB approved and hosted) current one is Flash and only Flash, right? At least what loads here is Flash with no hint of alternatives. That's is why I wonder how he used it, based in "migration from iPhone to Samsung". Previously iPhone, now Samsung, and says he misses it... that should imply he used it before.

I already read next one, not avaliable yet, will be HTML/JS based (just like some others you can use already, but non official).

frack, I hope the new builder isn't Java-based!

Java is less secure than Internet Exploder! :suicide:

JavaScript, not Java.

Javascript can be unsecure as well, but then again, so can everything else too. JS is practically used everywhere, whereas Java and Flash are a little more rare. Flash is as unsecure as Java.

Javascript, not Java. :didactic: As someone who's had to work with both, there's a huge world of difference between the two.

There's a pretty good chance that an iOS device will be able to run an HTML5 (HTML and Javascript) application. There's no chance in Hell that an iOS device will run a Java application.

Disclaimer: I drank the Apple cool-aid.

Java is Runescape and such, right?

If I'm seeing the right thing when I look up Runescape, yeah.

Java: Interpreted language for development, that was (originally) used for in-browser applets and stand alone applications. Slowly catching up to Flash on the "continual patching for (potential) security problems" score. XD

JavaScript: Unrelated scripting language that was (originally) used to do simple client-side stuff in web pages, and has slowly expanded to be able to do more and more (up to complete applications and some pretty impressive graphics) in the browser.

Your Safari browser on your iPad will run JavaScript. It'll just quietly ignore a Java applet.

Sorry, totally forgot Runescape was only a big thing for 13/16 years old back in 2003/06.. It was a (IIRC) Java game, the first MMO in a browser. Pretty neat for its day and age.. but I'm not sure if it survives today.

I guess I should have been a bit more specific in my post. When I was on the iphone, i used an app called Infinity:ops. nothing to do with the army builder. How ever for the samsung there is only aleph tool box, which imo was useless.

I like the online army builder and was declaring my appreciation, when I heard that the new version of the CB endorsed army builder will be available for all mobile devices.

The only other program I was using is the iPad app Mayanet, which again imo is awesomesauce.

THough after having a chat last night with a mate that knows much more about IT then I do claimed there is a way to get the current CB endorsed army builder to run offline, on your samsung device.

Yeah, CB's announced that after they get the main version of Army released, they're going to do a mobile version of it.

And that makes perfect sense because you do pretty much need to redo the interface of the application if you want to have it look good on the desktop and look good on a regular (non-phablet) smart phone or small screen tablet.

There's a chance, depending on how much memory it needs, that the HTML5 version of Army is just going to work on the iPad Air or whatever the recent Android tablets are.

I've drank enough Apple cool-aid that I'm forced to say that a native iOS app like Mayanet can be written to look better (and definitely run better) than an HTML5 application. But that may be the "You're going to pay me by the hour to do this awesome thing, right?" speaking. :) The HTML5 version that runs on everyone's devices may be awesome enough on its own without the extra effort.

There are also the loops and hoops that a developer needs to jump through to get the app in the respective stores. Also the app developer is then responsible for maintaining compatibility with new OS versions and if they don't want to alienate old customers, with old versions as well.
An HTML5 capable browser is the phone developers responsibility and it's always backwards compatible. So with one stone you're striking like 16 birds at once. Yes, native apps can function better than a web page on a mobile device, but the cost of making them can be huge for a small company like CB. So in practice, HTML5 version is the only one that makes sense.
Not to mention that to make the iOS, Android and Windows Phone versions, they'd need to outsource the project which is not only expensive, it's slow and not always reliable. They'd be forever chained to the outsourced company everytime they want to update it, unless they hire staff to specifically to do just that. Again, CB = small company = not worth it.
