There's a spectacular example of one person in particular being a knob in the August thread.

It seems they are passing the archive robot. Why other systems work fine with over half million posts and IPBoard needs to push things to separate tables, I don't know.

The forums seem to be up again. But as I understand it, Claudius Sol will be posting his GenCon reports here. Guges set the bar pretty high last year. I hope CS is up to it.

Hahaha, I hope to not disappoint. Though, I doubt I'll be able to cover EVERYTHING. I'll be spending most my time there and hope to write up a big ol' article for the Data-Sphere blog about it. I just find Data-Sphere more stable and easier to host images.

DataSphere makes it easier to post images too, since it uses standard HTML. And it doesn't crash my browser on my tablet...

I really appreciate CB sabotaging their own forums from time to time, just so people will continue to use Data Sphere.

Could you explain? Because both sites use BBCode, just here you use [ img ] URL [ / img ] and there [ img = URL ], and other small details, but otherwise pretty much the same.

as standard HTML. The [img="content"] is annoying, since the "content" must end in .jpg, .gif or .png. It doesn't handle other image URLs well at all, in my experience. It makes posting images a PITA. I cannot simply type the code once in a text editor and ctrl+V to post it everywhere. I post a lot of photos. I suspect you've noticed that

Ah, OK, yes, that they don't share the exact same syntax is a problem, no idea why divergents have to drop the original. And also found the extension issue, instead of the system checking for proper image content. Everyday I see tech becoming magic, and not because it's advanced but badly handled.

And lot's of errors now. Unable to login.

I've been getting tons of errors over the last couple of weeks, regardless of GenCon and other events like Nova. I'm glad CB kept their forums open, but apparently they're still not actively trying to improve them.

Yes, I think CB neglected to upgrade their own forums capacity (after they so nicely sprung for our new-and-monster-capacity serverspace)...

It was worst during GenCon, but I am still occasionally getting errors on CB's end of the 'net.

CB had a reason to contact us, Data Sphere, to take over the role of 'semi-official forum'. And it seems rightly so. Their infrastructure already had trouble with the amount of traffic, and they weren't sure if they wanted to put effort/resources in their forums in the future. N3 coming up, the official forums weren't really moderated for some time already (much to my dislike) and it went down a couple of times before they announced their decision to transfer the community to this place.
I am happy they retracted that decision, but it seems their reasons to contact us were more urgent than we initially expected. I hope they find a way to cope with the popularity boost N3 will bring them (yes, I am sure that will happen!). And if not, we'll be here still. nothing wrong with an alternative place to meet and discuss the things we like, right?

Not saying it is BAD, not at all. i'm just a bit more cautious after that month :p

Yeah, unfortunately whilst the majority of people would be cool about it, a few might get the wrong idea. People know about DataSphere thanks to our content and members and that's really enough.
