From close up, a shotgun would be a very versatile weapon (just as in RL...)

I'm looking forward to it, there's quite a few shotguns among my troops (your Ghulams should be happy, too).

One stray though - with new range chart snipers might be a mandatory choice, especially those with MSR. Deployed properly they should stop most assault troops with HMGs/Spitfires from making frontal assaults, and since best tactics against such board control would be countersniping... I think matches in N3 might often start with fire exchange between snipers, before the heavy hitters will even move.

I could certainly see that, but I think Infiltrators will circumvent that with their (typically) higher burst values over the sniper.

Camouflage and other quick and evasive units could also be used to circumvent the long-range threat.

Yeah, that's my second guess. Infiltrators, AD troops, oddities like Kotail - they will be useful here. Still, snipers are getting more useful and I'm happy about that. Infiltrating snipers are still debatable, but those deployed in DZ, especially with Camo/TO Camo/Mimetism will be great.

I never dropped an infiltrating sniper but a couple inches outside my own DZ, to take advantage of terrain. As long as that is an option in N3, that's all I'm likely to do.
