Imperial Assault

Is it a wargame? More like Dungeon Crawler meets Tactical RPG? I don't know for sure..

But, I have it on my table right now and since Infinity is almost dead in my nearest area but I still have my own forum at my disposal, why not post about projects I'm working on? :D

Imperial Assault is a cleaned up version of Decent 2.0 and it's entirely themed to Original Trilogy Star Wars. The base game has about 40 minis included (among them an AT-ST! ), so there is lots to paint! I might even venture into really basing this time, to add to the game as well.

There are some expansions already on the horizon (as expected from FFG) so this might become one of my favorites quite fast.. (Star Wars, minis, out-of-the-box wargame/rpg/dungeon crawler? I'm in!).

Any thoughts about the game as well? Experiences? You can dump them below!

Infinity not working out near you either? I'd suggest coming to Rotterdam for a bit but we're dead in the water as well. Though it seems like we have some new players, West is trying to get me to play games with them.. maybe soon?

Anyway I have no idea what this game is but I hope you have fun.

I'm interested in how they improved the mechanics since Descent2.

Yes, very unfortunately. There is a couple of new players, but they're all invisible (playing in each other's living rooms), makes it hard to contact. Also, most of them are far away from me, and I'm not spending hours to drive to a place for a game. It's all but dead in Utrecht, doesn't sell in Den Bosch, Rotterdam has been dead pretty much since the N3 fiasco came out. From what I know only Zeeland and Leiden are currently active in Infinity. But even there.. last ITS brought just about 4 people to the table.
In my experience, Infinity isn't a game to be played on-off... it makes you really bad at the game because it's so complex. You have to invest more time in it, get regularly practice.
After 2,5 years of actively trying to get the game going, I think I'm pretty much done now. You could even say I burned out on the game. xD

Edit: Adding to it.. I have a feeling a lot of the game stores in NL ended up with dead stock from CB's resculpt mania and unclear eition change. Every store I have visited has a couple of boxes or 2nd edition on the shelves collecting dust, and it is not moving anywhere. I think it will be hard to get some of them going again, as they probably feel Infinity has a big red warning sign of lost money.

From what I know, they've adjusted LoS rules. Now you have to draw a line between the two closest points of your base to one point on the other one's base. So you can't take the unnatural shots through walls of impassible rocks because the line just doesn't get obstructed in a red lines cross section or something like that.

And they changed the initiative. Descent has mostly 'All Heroes => Overlord => new round' and IA has "1 Hero => Imperial => 1 Hero => Imperial => etc. => new round".

Those two are the biggest changes.

Hey Scorch,

What a shame, such a great game going below the radar of many people, I thought the main gaming community of the Netherlands was around Utrecht ( Subcultures), Amersfoort ( Ducosim), but you may be right about people playing in their living room ( like our group).
We currently have 6 gamers playing infinity on a regular basis, I've seen your tournaments in the past, but at the time I was an infinity noob so I could not go, but now I might consider a drive to Leiden for it.

Now ontopic,
I just love imperial assault, it feels good, balanced and of course the best game setting I could ever wish for  , my gaming friends have no interest in playing it so I looked for others to play it with, I've found 4 people who where also star wars fanatics like me and we play the skirmish variant quite often.
The game becomes better and better with every new release, expanding the possibillities and strategic depth.
The models also look really good ( not infinity good, but very decent), I try to paint everything from the game.
