What games did you play in 2014 ?

Other than INFINITY what miniature games did you play, got rid of, or shelved in 2014 ?

Played :
- Freebooters Fate : Diceless rhum and pretzel pirate game.
- Helldorado : Fantasy d6 game with alternate activation in which models in CC deal each other damage.
- Pulp City 2E Beta rules : The new set of rules is coming out in December 2014 or January 2015.

Sold :
- Got rid of Dark Ages. The game is fun but too big once you start playing larger games.
- Got rid of BFG. Haven't played a game in 3+ years.
- Warmahordes. Don't like playing MtG in 3D...

Shelved :
- Dropzone commander : A good game but too many models in larger games. I may get back into it when 2E comes out or if my interest in INFINITY fades after reading 3E.

Conclusion : I won't buy «high model count» games any more. I only have time to learn one complex game and that's INFINITY. Any other game I play needs to be between 4-8 models maximum. I might get a starter of Eden post apocalyptic game in 2015. A friend of mine offered to do a demo during Christmas time.

Not sure if Twilight Imperium really fills the role of miniature game, but I've played that one twice this year. It brings a lot of battle fleets with it, and is a tabletop. So it counts in my book. ;)

Other than Infinity, I've eyed many games, but none really grabbed me as much as Infinity did. Looking to expand in space-fleet wargames later on, as it is something completely different from the army wargames. Found (thanks to many on this forum) Full Thrust and Starmada, and will certainly look into these two.

Got rid of my 1000 points Space Marines and Necrons thanks to IJW's great service! :) Traded them for MAS tokens.

Things that drew my eye, but haven't started:
Saga - looks nice, skirmish, historical (something different from my normal sci-fi/cyberpunk). Miniatures though.. Ugh.. I'm spoiled by CB's quality.
Malifaux - not my cup of tea.. too many rule-benders/breakers. I find that tremendously boring.
Wolsung - Looked great! Had a demo during Spiel in Germany. Was pretty cool!

TI3E was UBER cool. But we don't play anymore because it takes too much time. Sold my stuff last week.
I may replace it with QUANTUM : http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/143519/quantum

I got rid of all GW stuff in 2013. Nothing left in my drawers. Not even an empty sprue.

Wolfing does look cool. But the scenery needed is too detailed and expensive. Went down that road with INFINITY... never again!

Malifaux:
Still not my cup of tea although I keep winning...

WarmaHordes:
Still sucks (imho).

Classic Crimson Skies:
I still love it and probably will play it in the future.

Mordheim:
We started a campaign and it's a great way to see my Confrontation miniatures in action.

Plus about a ton of board games (well, more like 200 kg, but still a few).

Firestorm: Armada
Acceptable as an once-in-a-time beer & pretzels game. I'll play it on, but not going to invest into it.

(Tried to) get rid of my Wahammer FB (and I have a really old models by today's standards, 5ed and some older). No customer on a local market though. I might try the IJW's service.

Firestorm : Bought a starter when it came out. Played 2 games against the same guy. There was a local buzz but it never materialized into a community or events. Sold my models. I don't keep games I don't play.

I've played:

WarmaHordes - Convergence of Cyriss
Relic Knights - Cerci Speed Circuit
Firestorm: Armada - Rense System Navy

Shelved (for good, I think, unless I can sell them):

WH40k - Grey Knights, Sisters of Battle, Tau

Never even brought out:

Anima Tactics - I own two models for Wissenschaft, built them, primed them, and they'll likely end up as case studies in painting various clothing/skin effects.

Crimson Skies has a really cool setting and ships. Only played the Wizkids clicks version.

Relic Knights : Big buzz in my area when the KS was announced. But by the time the models actually arrived almost no one played... I didn't get into it because of the exaggerated female pin-up poses. (let's not start a sexual objetification thread please! ;) )

Regarding Relic Knights, pin-up cheesecake aside, it's a very fun system with large focus on objectives and cinematics.

I'd really recommend giving it a try if you're ever afforded the opportunity.

My faction is, unfortunately, entirely female from what I can tell, but is so fun to play! I just literally race circles around the board to complete my objectives, most of the time.

Apart from infinity.
Bought a fleet for Firestorm Armada. Played a few games, shelved the fleet - game isn't what I wanted. Fleet will go on to be used in Full thrust, though. The game was too simple (I'm used to FT's complexities and like them).

Played WHFB at club level and 1 tourney. Not all my clubmates play infinity. I'm the treasurer, so I kinda have to turn up to meetings, so I picked this game a few years back as my "alternate" (I usually have two games on the go at a time. Stops me getting bored with one system). The total change of system is good for keeping the brain active.

Played a couple of games of Tomorrow's War in 28mm. I like this game.

I don't do boardgames and have yet to find a fighter combat game that I like.

Think I got in one game of Infinity in the last year, and maybe a game of Ambush Alley (colonial Brits). Both in the winter or early spring.

Added Relic Knights and Robotech RPG Tactics to the collection, but haven't had a chance to play either one yet.

Should have gone with Cerci for my Relic Knights choice, but I also want some Black Diamonds ("generic" power armored troops) and Noh (to use as demons in a Japanese-themed RP or tabletop game).

My Robotech minis are all assembled, barring the magnetizing of a few models for greater game flexibility. Need to get some new gray primer for them before I can apply paint.

Played:
Infinity: I expanded into my fifth army. :haqq: :nomad: :yujing: :ariadna: :pano: with my wife slow growing her :aleph: . Sadly I played less games than armies I own, so whatever. Bought a lot of terrain I plan to paint on my four day weekend.

Warmachine: For all its problems, my wife and friend already know the rules, and it can be fun to just YOLO a list when no one cares about winning.

X-Wing: Fun pick up and play dogfight game, my wife and I love it. I love that it doesn't take too long to set up, learn, or play, seeing as with three kids its hard to find a couple of hours for infinity or warmacs.

Wanted to Play, Will Soon:
Song of Blades and Heroes. My wife and I are going to do a campaign of her Woodland Folk vs my Necromancer and Company. Looks to be fun, don't wanna start till we paint up our models though. Love the rule system, but I'm sure its too simple for most people around here. :P

Sold/Traded:
Warmac models I didn't want and Warhammer Fantasy Battle stuff I never used but got SUPER CHEAP on ebay back in the nineties(God that makes me feel old saying that), which I traded for a metric crap ton of Ariadna models, all of which I had varying degrees of want over.

What I've Learned
Small skirmish games are my thing now, and even in Warmacs I use as many expensive, low model count units that I can. My wife and I both like having sexy girls in cool poses to break up the operators operating and knights knighting.

There is a case to be made for light entertainment ! I like Battleship Galaxies by Hasbro. ;)
I have the PDF of SoBaH. Just didn't take the time to play yet. Maybe during Christmas time.

by Mistake Not
Played:
Infinity: Played ALEPH and Tohaa most of the year, then brought out the Nomads later in the year as I did start missing them. Several active players at the club, some occasional players, and recently a large influx of new players, both a group from Mordheim making the switch and Icestorm recruits. Slowly growing the rest of the factions, up to at least one painted model for each of them now that I've decided on a Haqq scheme.
Mordheim: The Lady Arvina is a beast. With the last few active players now playing Infinity this looks likely to be shelved, though with a lot of people with warbands at the store it might still be around.
Godslayer: Wish I could play this game more. A lot of people don't like the models, I don't actually either, I just proxy everything. The rules and great, and the fluff is an amazing read. Slightly above skirmish in size, though it feels similar due to the number of characters/units.
Bushido: I was looking at this game for a while, it's interesting. Then I looked at their Ito line closely and now I play it quite a bit. Post about it too.. anyway, it's a sweet skirmish game.

Painted for fun:
Malifaux: Got the Colette box because I could, and I love these models so much. Painted the most intricate pattern I've tried on Colette, still happy with how that turned out.
Undead: I like painting vampires, ghosts, zombies, and skeletons. Especially zombies are nice to do after concentrating on details for a while. Five moderately sloppy layers of paint, some detailing, and they're done.

Shelved:
The Heralds of Discord are still shelved, though at least two characters got assembled out of spare parts and painted.. I never got into 40k much. Space Marines have gotten so boring to paint though..

Roleplaying:
There was DnD campaign that was eventually abandoned, which I still think is a shame. My rogue lied to the party continously, though they did kind of deserve it. A WoW inspired rogue, a fully mix-maxed sorcerer, and a paladin with anger issues. Only the paladin occasionally caught on.. When we met it was in a tavern, to which I had tailed them for my employers. My boss and his thugs came in soon after, and we all got properly introduced, while the enforcers ensured their cooperation. I stole their purses, tried to get them drunk, got drunk herself, then started juggling their purses in front of them. Then they told me I was their boss now. Good times. We burned down the town we were supposed to liberate, or rather or chosen ally did.. regardless, we adopted some vampire children eventually, and that became our main thing. Then it all ended..

played

Infinity. I played a lot of infinity. I run a tournament every other month, played in two tournaments and I get in usually three games a week on average.

Bushido I picked this up and got one friend to play and am spreading it out to another 2-3 others and already am building terrain and developing my second faction. I play 3-4 games a week of this though. An absolute breath of fresh air for me.

shelved

Malifaux. ugh. Just not feeling this game. Tried it a few times to play with a different friend and did well but just isn't my cup of tea. I also hated how you pick and tailor what you're playing after the mission so the person with the most minis to pick from has a better chance to tailor a better crew. I also really hate steampunk and western aesthetics so that didn't help.

Dropzone Commander. Cool minis. I have the PHR faction. The game didn't really catch on in my area mostly because the Fantasy Battles guys basically killed all interest in the game with their lies and bullshit. Hate those assists.

Anima Tactics. some okay models but the game is awful to play.

Played:
Infinity - Because it's where the awesome is. Rocked out on the table with JSA and Qapu Khalki.
Warhammer 40K - Played a few games with an old friend.

Not really minis, but Super Dungeon Explore. I painted the starter set and actually played a game.

Shelved - for now:
Flames of War - Still love the game system, just tired of the tournament mentality that took over among the guys I was playing with.

Bought into in a huge way and never put a mini on the table:
X-Wing

Played:
WMH - my main game and long time love. Still think it has the best written ruleset to time. Also, comp play is top notch.

Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 - spent over 100h reminding myself how good were actual RPG games in 90's.

Malifaux - one game after 2 years break. Liked it. No time for more.

Shelved:
Blood Bowl - waiting for Guild Ball kickstarter to ship. It is simply better.

Mordheim - no time, ancient rules, lack of support from releasing company. My favourite "good old days" game but now just "old" game.

Played:
Couple of games of Infinity. Kinda dropped off waiting for N3. Have been busy with Haqq minis though

Chain of Command. Great platoon WW2 skirmish rule set. Played North Africa 1941, a game with A Very British Civil War minis and finally settled on doing Americans and Germans in 15mm. Will most likely expand into more forces, planning to play solo as my opponent moved cities.

Sharp Practice. Napoleonic skirmish. Shelving my 28mm minis and planning on doing 2 forces in 15mm. Probably American War of Independence, also solo

Kiss Me Hardy. Just picked this up, Napoleonic naval. Nice rules

Shelved:
Nothing shelved in 2014, but I dropped a lot in '12 and '13. If anything I've gone off 28mm for games with more than 15 or so minis a side

In summer I had a game or two with [/b] Malifaux [/b] . Not a fan of the setting but ruleswise - very interesting game. I think that Infinity lacks alternating activations like in Malifaux or Confrontation.
In the February I started to play [/b] Infinity [/b] in local club. Now we've grown from 2 to ~10-12 players and are holding our first tourney (and this is my biggest acquire thus year after third child delivery and getting new job). At the start I had only old CA stuff and wife's Bakunin starter. Then I bought a bunch of Nomads with huge discount, played with them a while, then had a try with Yu-Jing and ALEPH. Now I've got MAF starter and want to stick with them for a while.
[/b] Twilight Imperium [/b] was already mentioned in this thread. I want to add that I want to play it for years. But it has lots of barriers: money, time, people and LANGUAGE(!). During previous X-mass holidays I tried its light version - Eclipse , with my friends. And that was the gamesession I was dreaming about!
On the shelves I have Battles of Westeros, Dreadball, Full Thrust, WarmaHordes, Wiz-War, Settlers, Munchkin, Carcassonne, Dungeon Twister: the card game, 7Wonders, MtG and much more.
And it is [/b] really hard [/b] for me to sell any if these cause you know ...

This year was a bust for me. I worked three jobs with one them being 12 hours overnights 4 days a week... until Sept and the new job came along. So I didn't play as much but I got a lot painted and I've been making like crazy for lost time.

Miniatures:
Infinity: Not as much played as I'd have liked. Stripped my JSA and starting to repaint them.
WarmaHordes: Got my Skorne done and a lot of Cygnar - more of my painting is for IKRPG. Played lots more since Sept.
MERCS: Picked up three factions and played quite a bit at the start of the year - want to see this 2nd edition and where it's going to go
Dreadball: Slowly work through the my Kickstarter returns ... still ... so manny minis

Cards:
Cards Against Humanity: Cottage nights and birthday parties - out come the cards.
Magic the Gathering: Probably the game I've been playing the most, I have a few decks in the car, great quick pick up gam - lots of Commander matches this year.
Game of Thrones LCG: Giving away as soon as I can.
NetRunner: Loving it slow building up my collection - lots of fun.

BoardGames:
Twilight Emperium 3rd Edition with both expansions: Got another game coming up, glad I invested in some major storage
Axis and Allies 1940 Europe and Pacific: My dad's present this year, getting six mates and playing the GLOBAL game
Game of Thrones: One of my favorite board games since Diplomacy
Takenoko: Fun with the Mrs
Tsuro: Fun with family...

Video games:
Mass Effect - doing a trilogy run right now:
Batman Arkham Origin - gave away
Shadows of Mordor - lots of fun

RPGs:
Legedend of the 5 Rings: We are half way through the Second City box set
Dragon AGE: Have Box Sets 1 and 2... so far so good
Star Wars: AoR, EoE : Not bad, ok non crunch RPGs
Iron Kingdoms RPG: A favorite game getting lots of attention at the home.

Been playing Flames of War for a while now, and I also keep a Warmachine Cygnar army on hand. Although I am trying to sell off a Retribution Army to save some space.

I also have some 28mm WWII British for Bolt Action, not played much, but my group loves their historicals. Much like Infinity, I'm waiting for a 2nd edition to fix some lazy design work for the game.

Also dabbled in Dropzone Commander, but again, my group got into 6mm moderns, so I figured it wasn't going to happen and sold that.

After that I really felt I needed a scifi game in my life, and was getting tired of historicals and Warmachine's harsh style of play. So, I developed my own game, called Exoshift. But I also had some leftover Infinity stuff from a year ago, and the terrain was usable for both games, so I finished up my Infinity army and use the stuff for playtesting my game. The two are skirmish, but have drastically different art styles and settings. Plus my game would scale up into platoons, so I'd have different games for different times.

Infinity I'd play as a secondary game with my MRRF, and leftover Combined Army.

Played a lot
Infinity - my main game in 2014 and 2013, unsurprisingly. Not going to change in 2015, hands down.
SAGA - beer and pretzel dark ages mayhem, beards, axes, shieldwalls and shouting elaborate challenges and insults at the opponent. On those days when I didn't have the brains to play infinity, I enjoyed a couple of SAGA games. Roughly 40 models per side are not too much, but not too light either.
DBA - still one of my favourite break fillers. Twelve elements of 15mm Minis on a 2' (60cm) square board, half an hour of fun, multiplayer campaigns that can be concluded within just an afternoon.

Played, but do not own
ACW homebrew - a friend of mine, who happens to be our local shop keeper, painted more than 500 miniatures for ACW this spring, using a homebrew set of rules. This allowed me to dip into a setting I do not wish to collect, but had a lot of fun playing once in a while.
Malifaux - a nice game. I thoroughly enjoyed playing it, but I'll stick with Infinity.
Dropzone Commander - same here. Reminds me positively of some early PC strategy games and the old GW Epic game. Would play it anytime, but somehow I'm not at all interested in buying or painting a single miniature.

Played occasionally
Blood Bowl - we paused our local League after five seasons halfway through 2013, and I played just a handful of friendly games in 2014. 2015 will probably see a revival of our league.
X-Wing - does it count? It's more like a board game, after all. Still I like it.

Painted
Infinity (shitloads), Blood Bowl (finished some additional players for two teams, but postponed everything else), SAGA (just some added strength for my two main factions, while my Franks still hug the shelves in their brown spraypaint undercoat), Gorkamorka (happily got rid of all my painted 40K stuff over the last years, so I literally had to start from scratch to gather a Mob for our upcoming Gorkamorka Campaign; to me, it's the ideal GW game - it has Orks, the silly rules don't bother me because the game isn't meant serious anyway, and there are no Space Marines; plus, you can legaly yell, shout, swear and do wonky stuff without drawing too much attention), some varied commission pieces for friends, some Napoleonic 18mm Bavarians (still 250+ foot left before I'm able to field a starting force...), some 15mm Hellenistic pikes for my FoG army.

Shelved
BFG - great game, but the last active player with a painted and assembled fleet moved away in fall 2013.
Mordheim - with the end of our campaign in 2012, the Mordheim warbands went into my showcase, from which they were recently expelled by a constant trickle of Infinity recruits. My Mordheim: Lustria warband is still unfinished.
Lord of the Rings/Hobbit - I loved the LotR game, but it got less interesting over the years, and the local players are close to extinct. We use the rules for a Skyrim skirmish last year, and my Rohirrim saw some action as Merovingian Franks for SAGA an 2013, but in 2014 none of them hit the table.

Others play it locally, but I stubbornly resisted!!!
Flames of War and Bolt Action - 20th century warfare simply isn't my thing when it comes to wargames. I find it tasteless and unentertaining to watch. Will not touch. Ever.
Dust Tactics, Deadzone, Dread Ball, Freebooter's Fate - might be nice, but I won't find out. Infinity is almost everything I need, and for added entertainment, I have my historical stuff and some wonky Skirmishes (like Gorkamorka), so no thanks, no new rules for me.
WarmaHordes - tried, found lacking, discarded six years ago. No going to turn back.
Warhammer and the Grimdarknessofdarkgrimskulldarkgrimness - The only thing I regret about selling/giving away my entire Warhammer stuff years ago is that I had to start all over with my new Gokamorka Ork mob. Apart from that, I don't regret a single Warhammer game I played between 1992 and 2012, but I'm still convinced getting rid of it was the second best decision I ever made. While there are a lot of Warhammer players in my meta, I get the nasty impression that the closest description for my feelings towards them is some sort of well-meaning pity.
Dystopian Wars and other Spartan Stuff - I painted some minis for a friend, but I simply do not like the games (neither rules nor miniatures). It's become a true shelf-hugger at the local shop, gathering dust as you're watching, and I guess it was a wise decision not to buy into this dead horse.
