300Pts Tohaa - Hard & Heavy

Hey there,

I thought I'd make my first post here an army list that I've been developing for a little bit after deciding against the Chaksa Auxiliar GHML. I'd love to hear your thoughts as to whether you think I've covered every base, and especially what you think of how I distributed models in the Combat Groups, and whether or not this list is too vulnerable to hacking. I know this wouldn't function for certain missions, but switching out 2 Kamael for a Kumotail shouldn't be hard.

Combat Group #1
Triad #1
Image Ectros HMG (53|2)
Image Makaul Flamer (15|0)
Image Kamael Lieutenant (12|0)

Triad #1 is the army's main firebase, it should be set up in a secure location relatively back with a wide view to spot incoming attackers. The Triad should move as little as possible, and revolves completely around the Ectros' HMG laying down fire, including Suppressive Fire. The Lieutenant is in this group to confuse the enemy, and is well-placed due to the protection of the others and the static nature of the Triad.

Triad #2
Image Sakiel Spitfire (24|1.5)
Image Makaul Flamer (15|0)
Image Makaul Flamer (15|0)

Triad #2 is one of the mobile elements of list, and will be doing most of the maneuvering; moving up into close range to unleash bursts of Spitfire madness. If the Link is broken the now Impetuous remaining fighters should increase the pressure on enemy models even further.

Assorted
Image Gao-Tarsos HMG (40|1.5)
Image Kamael Combi (12|0)

The Gao Tarsos is the list's hammer, and is sent in for an Active turn of rampaging, the army should be set up to allow a large investment of Orders into the Tarsos for this turn, as it will probably be its only one. The Kamael is there to pose as an Lt. and otherwise round out the Combat Group's Order pool.

Combat Group #2
Triad #3
Image Gao-Rael Sniper (37|1)
Image Makaul Flamer (15|0)
Image Sakiel Viral (26|0)

The Gao Rael Sniper must adhere to seeking out very specific targets, namely ones that it can uniquely threaten with the use of its MSV2. This Triad should hunt out Specialists and enemy Snipers, and will succeed by making use of superior maneuvring and resilience. The Sakiel is in here to keep enemies that manage to get close, but not close enough for the Flamer, at bay.

Assorted
Image Clipsos Mines (24|0)
Image Kamael Combi (12|0)
Image Diplomatic Delegate Civvie (0|0)

The Clipsos is the second surprise element in the Hard & Heavy list, but is less blunt, and aimed towards sneaking into the back field and rounding up support models such as enemy Hackers that can threaten this list. The Kamael Combi provides an extra Order and further obscures the list's Lt, while the Diplomat is simply there to snoop around and do whatever comes up.

My biggest concern is group two. You've got six models total. One of which is a TO camo, which means while she's hidden you won't have her order, and the Diplomat Delegate is an irregular order if I remember correctly. Which means you'll have a starting count of four orders for group two. Granted the triad/link team will be able to more efficiently use those four orders, but it's still only four.

Your first group is a little better with eight models, but even then you loose one until the AirDeployment Gao-Tarsos HMG unit arrives. So you start with seven which is less than ideal at 300pt. Also your comment about using the Ectros HMG for suppression fire maybe a little flawed. Don't quote me, but I think there are some restrictions the other triad/linked team members have if they ARO at targets outside of the suppression fire corridor.

Ok, don't take all this as pure negativity. It really boils down to how you use the link, generally speaking tactics win Infinity games. But you asked for our opinion. :)

What if he just deploy as camouflage marker? Enemy presumes it's a mine and a real clipsos is hidden.

Yeah I know, maybe it's trying to do too much at once; but hear me out. Group #2 is meant to take out specific targets that should be pretty clear at game start, Triad #3 shouldn't be ramboing around at any time. 4 Orders for the Gao Rael per turn should be fine, and less for a turn when the Clipsos enters the scene. The Diplomat does its own thing entirely, I don't even include it in my mental model count.

I'm not aiming to having all models do work each turn; the setup should be to keep each Triad (except the Ectros) hidden behind cover (not setup in ARO positions), and then pop out for overwhelming Active turn firepower. So CG#1 will probaby be using either the Ectros, Sakiel Spitfire or Tarsos as their main attackers per turn. That's why I think 8 Orders should be enough; the Tarsos needs a big reserve to draw from for its big turn, whereas CG#2 should be functional with a smaller total. If I wanted to maximize CG#1, then CG#2 would suffer, so my only other option would be to swap out one or two hitters for more bodies; but I don't think it's necessary. I'll check up on the Link rules regarding Suppression Fire and get back on it.

The main thing I think I should've stated in the OP is that this list isn't setup for ARO combat at all; the Reactive Turn should be spent hiding away for most cases; B2 on Triads is nice, but there aren't enough Orders to go around to be everywhere at once on the Active turn, so choosing which elements to activate is key here; and this list provides 5 potential threats (Triads 1-3, Tarsos & Clipsos) to choose from each turn

Ok, don't take all this as pure negativity. It really boils down to how you use the link, generally speaking tactics win Infinity games. But you asked for our opinion. :didactic:

Definitely won't do, thanks very much for the response; it's definitely what I need. If my responses to your observations seem insufficient to you I'd love to hear why you think I got things pegged wrong.

UPDATE

Do you have any suggestions as to how I shoul build up the Combat Groups if I were to keep this setup?

Don't you have the wrong Diplomatic Delegate? You've got the 0/0 civvie version for campaign use in there. Don't you need the 5/0 version? That will put you 5pts over.
