Underground Lasers:New shipping cost

PostPosted: March 14th, 2013, 11:01 pm

New Products at the end of the thread

We added new shipping rules to the ebay store

Free priority shipping to the US on all our items

25 dollar shipping worldwide with just 1 dollar extra for each additional item so buy 10 items = pay 34 total

buying package deals like the 50 dollar table special counts as 1 item, so you get all that for 25 dollars shipping international.

I'll try to make it better once i don't have to use Ebay

The philosophy of our terrain is an answer to the question: How do you colonize a new planet? well you ship all supplies to the planet surface with drop pods, landing and taking off large cargo ships is expensive so this option is an affordable option. Then use the empty pods as temporary housing/work stations till the more permanent buildings are built. So my buildings are actually the first wave of colonization of a new planet

Our terrain can be built with very little glue as most of the parts interlock with each other.

Kickstarter is now live. and Funded!!!!

please pass the word around to any one you think might be interested.

There will be cake at the end (MDF cake ok?)

Well lets see how this works out

Signed the lease on the laser, bought 1000 sheets of MDF and prototype construction has started.

Prototype pictures will be up this Saturday, but for now check out the gear =)

Some more small edits.

I'm 90% done, just need to adjust a few more things and I should be ready for production, saving the pictures of the 7 other types of walls and doors for a few days before kickstarter time in 10 days

How many different layouts are you planning?

kidterminal wrote:How many different layouts are you planning?

its modular, largest board is a 10X16 inch board with the smallest boards at 3X3s so you can connect rooms with corridors, walls go from 1 inch walls to 6 inch walls, the larger walls come in several shapes like windows/doors/X frames. Floors can stack and there will be stairs and other goodies. everything slots into pegs and will store flat in a box.

take a look at the pictures again, those walls are double sided =)

more pictures of the set this Friday/Saturday

Very nice work thus far! You have some really creative designs. Gotta get to the gambit to check these out in the flesh one of these days.

The modular buildings don't really work for me. I think the problem is they are not telling a story - yes they can be combined in an infinite number of configurations, and that is great, but I don't think many of the configurations will actually look like a functional building.

They work as a 2D sci-fi dungeon crawl terrain, but as soon as 2+ storeys are added there is questions of how the other floors are accessed - ladders? I guess it would work OK as a industrial platform builder for something like necromunda, but I can't see how the concept will work for nice looking Infinity buildings at the moment. I mean this as genuine constructive criticism not flaming.

I have answers!!!

I could have made actual buildings for the kickstarter but that has been done, I wanted to have something different that can be modded in many different ways. so I took a hit on the "functional look" I agree they don't look like real buildings but sacrifices had to be made for the sake of the idea. this project is targeted to be used by as many game systems as possible with out tying myself to one specific style.

Buildings are coming to our product line after the kickstarter ends and our web store opens.

Got a question about it, if I pick option 1 do I get 1 x 11x17 floor grid and if i pick option 14 do I get 1 2x5 platform? Or are the numbers the amount I get per option point?

*Edit* Don't worry, just found answer I think down at the 1" wall section. Number is amount you get not a product ID

yeah not your fault, looks a bit confusing right now, it will be fixed once I put pictures of how many you get. I'm hopping to get straighten up by Sunday

Working on updated shipping containers and stand alone buildings for reveals after we hit first goal.

For Infinity purposes, to cover a 48"x48" board, you'll need about 12 11x17" floor boards (gives you 44"x51"). So, adding in 1 option of columns and 1 of 2" walls will give each floor some cover. That makes for 36 options. So the Omega level is the best bet for Infinity (Delta if you are willing to go blank).

If you go with an "underground base" kind of vibe, you can get O and H shaped layouts with fewer boards.

A couple of suggestions:
How about a minimal "open" floorboard which only has holes and detail panels around the perimeter? The centre has larger and simpler 3" panels. These can be used for cargo or docking bays and will break up the tile-ness of it all. You can price them as the same as blanks because the cutting time should be significantly less. That would encourage cheapskates (like me) to get enough for a big board.
Also, you could cut the 11x17" sheets into narrow 17" or 11" corridors.

For Infinity you can go many different routes, use the 3X3, 4X4, 5X5 etc and make several buildings of different levels for terrain, you don't have to use the 11 X 17 boards and cover the entire table, you will cover it with blocking structures built on the smaller tiles, the full table layout would be more for games like Frag / spacehulk/ zombicide that need those grids. (working on a side project right now to replace my super dungeon explore boards with 1.5" grid boards later this year and that will be a tables woth, those freaking miniatures are to big for 1")

the other way would be 2,3,4 large boards to make the inside of the facility. The idea for the room tiles with only holes on the perimeters is actually happening. I made reference to it on the kickstarter when I mentioned rooms with demon summoning circles. The reactor rooms, medbay and CnC rooms are like that, they are 6 X 6 rooms with etched centers and square peg perimeters... so you would connect this rooms using the 3 X 5 corridors and the sliding door frames I am showing them at the end of week one. it will look a lot like SH but with perimeter walls. So for Infinity you can go with one large area with walls separating the rooms and corridors Or rooms and corridor tiles with walls. There are also 3 other floor skins, and yes 1 of them has hexagons.

There is also going to be one risky option for me. You will be able to take the 11 X 17 sheet and tell me how you want it cut, for 1 option slots you take a graph paper and you decide what lines to cut, the way I have my files set up it only takes me about 3 minutes to edit the file so it works out on my end. as long as some nut job does not tell me to cut it into 187 1 x 1 squares I should be fine =), just kidding it only takes about 10 minutes to cut that grid... saving the "you cut it" option for the 2nd or 3rd weeks. That allso spares me the pain of trying to come up with every possible combination to please every one.

I held back on a few things for the Kickstarter, did not want to post everything upfront and then have no updates for the next month.

The main new thing is that wasn't a part of it is that I have been asked by a lot of people to do a few "stand alone buildings" that look more like infinity, so I'm taking my basic construction principle and re skinning some things and softening up he edges, hoping to have some stand alone shipping containers and 2 level buildings ready to show this weekend.
