line breaking with Tohaa

The forum is dead, long live the forum! Let's get things started on data sphere.

I am just starting Tohaa coming from vedic aleph and I want to know peoples linebreaking weapons/strategies of choice. What I mean by line breaking is the unit or units you use to make a hole in the enemies defense on active turn (or reactive if anyone plays that way with routine success) . I know this will vary a lot from meta to meta but I want to see what people are using just to see if there are any surprising ideas. Typically I assume it looks like: TO or AD attack on a flank followed by link with Ectros hmg, gao spitfire, or alies K1. This is undeniably effective but I feel like it misses nuance. Thoughts anyone?

Hole in enemy's defence? I'm not sure what you mean. Very rarely do enemies have full TR remotes covering every advance and/or Camo markers covering every avenue. Use blind spots and Cautious Movement to bypass certain corridors, and engage your opponent in your +3 range (and preferably outside of his!) - if all you're worried about is breaking the line, just make sure you force as many Guts rolls as possible, so you have a free avenue to move with the units you want to move.

Well... in my last game, I simply applied Gorgos. Worked well enough, moved the TAG up and fired away with B2 Flammenspeer. By the time my ammo was expended, I had entrenched the TAG just over halfway across the board in the midst of my opponent's preta link and kurgats. Nanopulsar quickly did away with the pretas, shrugging off the ARO counter attacks thanks to effective ARM9.

Another option I've used is Viral Combi Rifle with B4. That is a mean weapon. Whether an Ectros or Sakiel, if handled properly, it can just chew into your opponent. Most armies aren't geared for the BTS saves and the durability of both platforms gives a little insurance, in case a mistake was made.

Of course, the Gao Tarsos HMG can quickly collapse a flank or disrupt your opponent by AD3 right into the center. Having Symbiont armor lets him land in the midst of your opponent, easily surviving a single ARO from your average backline trooper.

A Clipsos armed with Swarm Grenades can combo quite well with your MSV2 Gao Rael.

That's all I've really experimented with til now.

Ectros HMG, I have thrown this against TR remotes link teams and the like with great sucess.

Gao Rael Sniper

Or any of the B5 spitfires we have access to as well. Makual to smoke to get you into optimal range then blow it up.

Also what the others said are good suggestions as well.

Makauls, makauls everywhere. Most enemies won't even see you coming.
By the way, guys, if N3 introduces FtF for Camo attacks, are makauls becoming even better? Right now combat camo is the only reliable way of killing one, in any other case he would just put a smoke template on himself.
