First ITS Tourney List at Local Club

by Taternuts » January 19th, 2017, 5:42 pm

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the add, I am trying to become competitive as possible in Infinity. I am playing in a ITS Tourney on Saturday and would like some critique of the list I came up with. I own 75% of the nomad line of models so feel free to offer suggestions of stuff not listed. Thanks in advance!

You want it nice or harsh? :v:

- first, what do you plan to be doing with that force?
- 3 models not giving regular orders in Group 1. Makes the above question even more important.
- not sure about the FB tsyklon, those points could be put to better use.

I'm a very competitive player in all games I play, I have zero interest in "nice lists" unless I'm demoing a game for someone =) That being said my thoughts on this list is to have the Hackers do my work dropping smart missiles doing scenarios etc while docs keep them up and the rem's give me more firepower. That being said I'm still very wet behind the ears and am totally cool with reworking the list completely I'm much more interested in playing Nomads to my max competitive potential and look at it as even if I don't own a certain model I will go buy it to make sure I'm playing to the best of my ability.

OK, harsh and blatant optimizing it is.

- learn your army. Know who has what role. Be able to point at any single model and instantly say what it's supposed to do in your list. Plans change, so do roles, but to not know this beforehand is to waste deployment.
- objectives are what matters. No one cares if you tabled the enemy and not lost a single model if he wins on mission points. Harass, disrupt, waste your enemy's orders and do your own objectives.
- orders are your most important resource. If a specialist must haul ass on foot across the map to do an objective, he's expensive as fsck and you want alternatives. Conversely, if something's got 1 wound and can be killed in 1 order by a random ARO crit, try to replace it with something harder/better protected at similar price, or two cheaper stuffs so you get more orders.
- AD, HD do not give orders at the start and should not be counted as such.
- appreciate your FOs. They not only target stuff for your SML (remember that if someone AROs this it's FTF!) but all FOs have a Flash Pulse which is a great ARO weapon. Nothing like having an expensive rambo blinded in the beginning of the turn.
- take at least 2 camo infiltrator specialists. Zero FO, Bandit hacker, whatever. You want cheap, under marker protection, and able to get to a console and click it in minimal order expenditure.
- kill wildcat, take 2 Alguaciles or Moderators instead (1 LT and 1 plain combi). This gives you 1 more order at same price and helps you hide the LT.
- take the Interventor as combi, even if you have to squeeze out the point. It's another LT option for potential assassins to take care of.
- take an Intruder (preferably with HMG) and some cheap smoke like a morlock or Jaguar or both/two. Smoke+MSV is a potent combo and you'll want it anyway to counter camo and control firelanes.
- kill the Hellcat, replace with more infiltrators. Maybe take a Moran Masai FO to extend hacking range this way (also Koalas give good board control and it's another specialist)
- if you want missile spam, take an absolute ton of FOs. Also, missile spam is not that effective if they don't bunch up.
- kill the FB tsyklon, it's hugely expensive for what it does. Feuerbach isn't that good and if your main use is to throw Pitchers, why not just upgrade the Interventor to a Custodier instead?
- upgrade the Sin-Eater to a Reaktion Zond, it's more versatile. Unless you lack the SWC.

That advice Rocks! Thank You so much quick question in "remember that if someone AROs this it's FTF" What does FTF stand for?

Face to face.

Also, you will get steamrolled many times from unexpected angles. We used to tell newbies "everything is bullshit in Infinity until you discover its hilariously overpowered counter".

Also, find 6pts somewhere and get two Zondbots (for your Daktari and / or Clockmaker). While Clockmaker might be close to your REMs to patch them up, Daktari might have a problem with that.

Of course, most of the time reviving / repairing units that are mere Order generators is a waste in ITS - in a 3-turn game, you'll spend more netto Orders to heal a model than it is going to generate. But sometimes you need to bring up an important specialist or Fireteam member or bring a support weapon back on-line not for the Order it provides, but for the duty it does.

Orders are a crucial resource in Infinity, and they need to be spent in an effective manner.

I did keep the Wildcat Lieutenant only because he is 0 swc as opposed to making a cheerleader one for .5 or 1 swc

Before I give my two-cents on this, please note I do not have any tournament experience so these are just my thoughts on changes that might benefit your strategy.

Seeing how part of the plan here seems to be to use Spotlight to Target enemies and hit the with the Vertigo Zond afterwards, did you consider taking a Meteor Zond?

I have not tried this remote myself, but seeing how it deploys in AD, is a repeater, a FO and Sensor, I think it would complement your strategy well. It is also very cheap and a specialist. Perhaps Pierzasty or Errhile have some experience using this and can give a more informed opinion than me?

In that same line of thought, having a EVO hacker would increase your odds of landing the Meteor Zond where you need it, although you can do the same using one of your hackers, and would allow you to Sat-Lock without the negatives. You could also reroll failed WIP from hacking using a command token.

Finally, I don't think having two doctors is really worth it and I would either change the Tomcatdoctor to a Tomcat Enginneer to repair your remotes and do the Sabotage classified objective or replace the Daktari with a Clockmaker (or the Tomcat if you prefer to keep the Daktari). Don't forget you don't have to deploy using AD and can just deploy them normaly if you prefer to have the order at the beginning of the game.

Good luck at the tournament. Let us know how it goes.

No experience with the Meteor here - my Corregidor has no access to it.
I was on a receiving end though, and it is nasty. Of course, back in 2ed it was way more nasty than now, but still... Meteor Zond is good.

I'm not sold on the Vertigo myself. I have used a SML REM (either in Corregidor, or one of my Haqq sectorials), and wasn't able to fire even one Smart Missile salvo (the drone in question was pretty threatening as a long-range ARO piece in direct fire mode). I consider it more of a scarecrow than real weapon, and very Order-intensive to that.

I actually tried this kind of attack strategy once with the Onyx Contact Force using the models that came in the box of the same name and fielding all the Unidrons as FOs and the Q-Drone as a T-Drone.

It worked well enough but it required a lot of orders and can easily backfire if you fail the FtF rolls. It might be safer with hackers but I would probably only use it to dislodge a unit I absolutely don't want to risk shooting head on.
