You do want these Fusiliers - they are stunning. Although I'm quite sure they'll be released separately from Icestorm, soon.

I hadn't even painted up my old Fusiliers yet. Not going to happen now. I wonder if I could find someone to sell them to... LOL.

EDIT: And I'll stop derailing the thread now... XD. BACK TO DISCUSSING NEOTERRA TACTICS! :cop:

So has anyone had any more play experience with these guys and gals?

It's all I've got and so far they've either been stellar (against other noobs like me) or bad (turned into very expensive orders). Suppressive fire is amazing and I find BS 13 (14 for the team leader) is a lot better than 12. I obviously haven't played at the more competitive levels but I've won as much as I've lost, which I guess is good? Haha.

Well, that's all this noobcake has for now.

For the glory of :pano: ! (or some such battlecry)

Sorry, yes, I am talking about the Bolts. I've tried them in 3 man links and they're ok (key word 'ok'). I feel like they want to work in 5 man teams with an HMG or Spitfire Link Leader. Am I nuts?

HMG will be pretty difficult, as it hasn't got this option. ;) What did the 3-man link consist of? Combi/Medic/Hacker? Some form of heavy weapon is always a good idea to bring. Spitfire/Hacker/Medic, or Spitfire/Combi/Sniper.. whatever you prefer. I still don't think there is a 'it works A, but not really B' kinda synergy in Infinity but if you prefer to run them 5-man, you do that!

If they're anything like Wildcats (and I believe they are) they will be best suited to a (and I quote Levitas) "button pushing" role. Move them up the field, grab an objective on the way.

If you use them as a static, defensive link, they will most likely disappoint (as did the Wildcats for me).

I was thinking a heavy weapon, marching up the field, yes. I tried them a couple of times as a static defensive team and they basically just died to anything. When I used them to apply pressure it made a big difference.

The team was basically combi/combi/medic.

So now that we've seen some of the information for Veteran troops always staying Regular, are we feeling better about our sexy Bolts? I think it's a pretty powerful benefit, though I am wondering why they pay more for their overall package than the Morats. Any ideas?

Cost right now is a 2nd edition model. We have to wait for N3 to see how each unit cost changes

That's a good point, I'd assumed they'd stay at 22ish.

You could be right! Just that right now I can't give a good answer to the question as we do not know enough of the new profiles. :p

Given the points changes between N2 and N3, I don't think that is a safe assumption!

I have tested Bolts in the last couple of weeks in a few games with my Neotterans (including an ITS tournament). After these games, I have following experience:

1) It's a bit difficult to get them into combat due to slow mobility.

2) Once I get them into fray, Bolts are awesome. Their Ballistic Skill value is outstanding compared to almost everything in their price range. Even basic load (combi + light shotgun) is quite dangerous.

3) Besides that, they are quite squishy. It doesn't matter in standard firefights (BS 13 is quite dangerous in any ARO involving Face to Face roll), but if the enemy manage to get close enough to use Chain Rifle, Bolts are in trouble. In my last game my adversary released his Cameronian on rampage and, well... half of my fireteam didn't survived the onslaught (but, sincerely speaking... who would?).

The biggest problem is the mobility of bolts . They possess weapons to fight on short and close ranges, and you're wasting a lot of orders the master to enter the positive modifiers.

Link 've tested

Neoterran Capitaline Army
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

Group 1 5 / 0 / 0
BOLT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 24)
BOLT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 24)
BOLT Hacker (Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, E/M Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 27)
BOLT Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (24)
BOLT Boarding Shotgun, E/M Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (19)

3.5 SWC | 118 Points

Open with Army 5

Personally, I prefer team of fizyliers is cheaper , thanks to HMG can keep the enemy at long distance , it is faster and has a Bipandra as a Doctor.

FUSILIER HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 18)

FUSILIER Hacker (Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 18)

CA needs a smoke grenade , I'd rather have smoke grenades bolts than E / M .

Sorry for my english,

What if you take a ML or MSR for that long-range shooting?

I have exactly the same issue with Corregidor's Wildcats - with their mobility you rarely close in to effectively use your Spitfire (so I basically do not field it), but a HRL (or, in your case, ML / MSR) is golden. Though I had them race the whole board and destroy someone's day with a number of point-blank Boarding Shotgun blasts, too.

Also, EM grenades are nice, even if you'd have to undo the Link to Speculatively Fire them. Being able to fry TAG / HI Link Team / nasty REMs from out of LoS (keep in mind they are at half BTS there!)? Yes please! Isolating most typical troops also throws a huge wrench in other people's battleplans.
In some cases, I'd even use them in Face-to-Face (and that's direct fire, so all the Link bonuses do apply) - if there is a chance to catch extra models in the EM blast, it may be worth it (and a jackpot if it is a HI Link Team, or enemy TAG).

Besides - only 2 profiles carry EM grenades (in addition to their Shotguns), so I wouldn't call them anything near to the once infamous "shotgun tax" ;) Comparing further to Wildcats, I must say I'd way more prefer EM grenades than the Flash Grenades Wildcats currently pack on their Boarding Shotgun loadout. And I still can't figure what good are these for...
