So I just saw the movie and it has some of the most amazing 3D rendering I've ever seen in an animated film. The story was meh but the action sequences and visuals were stunning.

It's also the best iteration of Briareos I've ever seen. So CB needs to sculpt a model of it and put it in the game. Changing enough to not violate copyrights obviously, but CB has already copied so much from Appleseed, that this is a natural progression of where their designs can go.

I loved the original, back in college, and read a ton of the manga. I should really get my hands on this new version and check it out.

As it stands, I have no complaints about the degree to which Infinity is already inspired by Appleseed (*cough* geckos and iguanas are landmates *cough*). Briareos would make a great special character (or rather the basis of a homage special character). And isn't the plot of Appleseed basically what happens when ALEPH tries to keep an underpopulated humanity alive by filling the last remaining city with lhost Aspects?

I expect one faction to get a male female pair where one model is a super jumping cyborg (probably best modeled by being an ARM 5 HI like the Su Jian, Hac Tao, or Achilles) and the other is a totally face punching girl with an assault rifle. Mirage 5 would have been perfect except that Duroc is a werewolf. If Duroc had been a cyborg with a giant gun, that looked like Briareos, then I would be happy.

Also the armored cav looks nothing like Briareos aside from the ears. The closest thing they've ever done to Briareos is the Guijia, where they kind of gave it his head, but the rest of the Guijia is way too bulky to be Briareos.

To me, he looks alot like any of a number of the Pan-O Heavy Infantry. Just with 1 eye instead of X number of eyes.

Why mess with amazing stylistic choices! Appleseed is awesome! I recently sat a friend of mine down who had never seen the original Appleseed and said, "you want to see where Infinity comes from?"

IMO, the closest Infinity comes to a model of Briareos is the PanO Aquila HMG. (Look at Bri's 'war face' armored faceplate, it's a near-perfect match to the Aquila helmet).

Alpha is a huge visual improvement over XIII. Some seriously rough backgrounds in there...

The newer piloted TAGs are all excellent Landmate models. I think I'm going to mod my two Guijia with some longer arms and legs when I strip them down to install the HFT and HGL. Not sure about the Szallie,Lizard and Guijia. Stick another head on a Guijia and it would work pretty well for one of the Olympus Police LMs... hey, that's an idea...

It's impossible to be too much of an Appleseed nerd. If they came out with a halfway decent Appleseed wargame or RPG, I'd buy in.

Also, I was always particularly tickled by the fact that the central thing is his nose, not an eye.

Here's another one... In a lot of the movies Briareos has sniper rifles, but is also known to use what Infinity would call HMGs and really big pistols that are probably more like SMGs or even big enough to be combi rifles.

In the manga, Bri packs a 20mm(!) pistol.

In the 2004 Appleseed, he's packing a Marksman Rifle or Mk12 in that scene with the deathbots chasing Deunan and Hitomi through the city. And then the 'sniper rifle' his Landmate packs looks like the 120mm cannon from an Abrams tank!

In Ex Machina he's got what I'd call a pair of SMGs or Assault Pistols in addition to the big gun.

My Infinity Bri is the the Aquila HMG, with the sword replaced with a Desert Eagle .50 pistol that I scrounged from somewhere (Reaper, maybe?)

I need to find some $$ to place another order to Ground Zero Games for the 'Deunan sitting on Bri's shoulder' sculpt, along with all the Bubblegum Crisis minis. I already have the separate Deunan and Bri sculpts, which aren't too bad in terms of matching up with Infinity minis. It helps that Deunan is a skinny little thing.

I think the Cutter is the best Briareos. Just add the bunny ears and you are basically done. Michel's Cutter has the antenna hair that Bri`s Landmate got in book 4. And it helps to see the resemblence.

I guess Mirage 5 are pretty much it as you say. I like it that Corvus doesn't do exact copies but puts there own twist on it.
That said, the other day I was thinking how to represent Briareos and Deunan for Infinity too and the best I could come up with was Toni as Deunans Guges, Kirpal as herself, "jumps out" when Toni goes down. And Brioareos as a Guarda. Not sure what the auxbot could be though.

I am also temped to use a Tokusetsu or Djanbazan head one one of the Yu Jing or Pan-O HI to make some Orcs.

Finished watching this on Friday. I started looking for models to convert for this almost right away.

I agree that Briareos is closest to the Aquila HMG. I was looking at the Chandra Spec Ops from Aleph as Deunan. Of course this started me down the path of which force would allow me to field them both. I guess Capitaline sectorial here I come.

Also, the new Bolts with a bit of helmet modification should work for the security forces from the first image.

I think Margot is probably the best model for Deunan in the game. It's also pretty close to what Deunan would be gameplay wise as well.

I would say that some of the designers of Infinity would almost certainly have had Appleseed, amongst other anime, on the mind when they were designed many of the sculpts. (Just to point out the obvious! : )

While this is true, they really need a Briareos and Deunan type couple in the game. If they're going to do a clone of Ryan Gosling in the game, they need a clone of Briareos and Deunan. I mean come on... Ryan Gosling?

Briareos' voice is so damn stupid. The whole movie is unbearable tacticool and suck dry stereotyp after another and super cheesy.

Makes me see what so great about Infinity again. Even though its a pretty dark universe, it doesn't take itself to seriously. The whole animal robots and Werwolves are proof of that. Masamune's work is quite like this too. Its also what makes the whole sexy power babe thing bearable.
I think whats great about Mirage 5 is, that they are not just a bland copy, but CBs own twist on it with a wink and nod to the master. Same goes for all the TAGs and Remotes.

As for Briareos as a mini, maybe the new Orc will be a male that should make rather good base. Or who knows maybe even the Mobile Brigada.

Yeah the plot and the dialog are terrible. Frankly, with such a massive amount of material from the original manga, deviating from the story just makes no sense. It's kind of offensive as the creators of this are basically saying "we have to dumb this story down for you". Making a prequel could have been an amazing idea. They could have done stories about Deunan and Briareos in between their time fighting in the war and when they went to Olympus. I don't think any of this time was spent in New York and they had never even heard about Olympus before they ran into Hitomi in bad side at the beginning of the comic. I don't think they were supposed to be in New York when they met Hitomi. I thought it was supposed to be North Africa.

Then again, it's been too long since I've read the original comic and I might be getting some of this wrong. The bottom line is that they could have very easily done a prequel which matched the manga and didn't.

All that aside, I don't watch Appleseed movies for the plot. I watch them for the visuals and the action sequences. This one had awesome versions of both of those and I'm very happy to own it on Blu-Ray. It's what made Appleseed XIII so bad. It looked like crap and it had a terrible story. Now there's a Blu-Ray I regret buying...

And of course Deunan and Briareos' relationship was as glorious as it ever was, it's absolutely my favourite thing about Appleseed. Bri's issues with his body, Deunan's dedication to who he is rather than his meat-body.. oh so good. And that line "I remember Briarios before he became.. disillusioned" .. I was just so pleased.

Yeah it had its moments, but could have been so much better with a real writer. In today's global economy, that has access to lots of good writers who desperately need the money as part of a shrinking middle class, I don't understand how so much stuff gets made that is cliched garbage.

Don't get me wrong, the movie is very watchable to me, but it could have been so much more. Why no one can do with Appleseed, what they did with Ghost in the Shell I find kind of astonishing. All of the iterations of that comic have had excellent writing, while movie producers only see Appleseed as cheap action.
