While I would certainly agree about bad writing in the Star Wars EU, there's also some wonderful writing. Pretty much anything by Timothy Zahn is going to be good (though I haven't read his latest, Scoundrels, yet).

Karen Traviss did an amazing job with the Republic Commando series as well.
In the hexagonal future, there is only war.

Well, de gustibus non est disputandum. :)

The original Dragonlance trilogy was pretty good, as was the Cleric Quintet and the first two Drizzt trilogies (Icewind Dale, Dark Elf). Various Starwars spin-offs have been as good, or better, than the movies. But yes, a lot of genre fiction blows giant donkey...

...something.

Drizzt got me through A-Levels. The author's other stuff... light elves/fairies with swords... meh.

@kaptajncongoby
Some of that BL stuff is just horrific.

The Kal Jerico comics and Pat Mills "the Redeemer" comic really brought Necromunda to life. I'd be (more than) fine with CB producing graphic novels.

I would like to see more vehicles and civilians.

Or at least more fluff that is not presented in books -> maybe some novels? Novel about first days on Ariadna or Panoceanian plans for galaxy?

Or like someone mentioned before, Antipode Wars for example on boardgame :P.

Unlike the GW games, Infnity is not corrupted and there is quite a lot possibilities about developing the world/fluff. Maybe CB could move timeline? For example: what happens when Human Sphere fails to stop Combined Army or when TOHAA decides that Alliance with Human Sphere is bad idea?

So many ideas so little 'Uncorrupted byt GW' people:P

See if you can get hold of the original version of Ian Watson's Inquisitor novel. Not the other two books in the trilogy, but the first one is a good book in it's own right and was enormously influential on the game universe itself. I've re-read it 2-3 times since my teens and it holds up well.

The Deathwing anthology also includes some decent short fiction, mainly because they got people like Charles Stross and Storm Constantine to write 40k-related shorts.

William King's first space marine novel was very influential too. It explained the life of a Space Wolf well.

While there is a lot of space marine Michael Bay type action, I have to point out a few of the good ones. Eisenhorn springs to mind, as does HHs Legion. The Black Library has its gems, but does pump out a lot of forgettable popcorn stuff.

Paradiso seems a logical first book for CB, possibly being several short stories, or multi faction perspectives on a singular event (CA invasion).

Nomad player, but I think Alephs infiltration of Bakunin would make an interesting read.

Well, there are many things mentioned in the fluff that could work at least as short story. Life of atek, the Golden dagger society, caravanasaries, Nomad ships annual meeting, work of bureau Toth, life on Paradiso (story of destiny on human population in occupied territorie?), space blockades, space pirates, descendants of NASA on Bourak, life of dog face or rogue AI...

I think there's more than enough in the fluff to support a RPG, both of the video game and the pen and paper flavors.

I could easily talk my group of RPGers into playing an Infinity setting. Would probably be fun too. (Dunks a shoe in my coffee before taking a yummy bite)

ive made a preliminary RPG system for it and i think over the next year i might be able to flush out all the crap. I would love for CB to come out with one themselves but in the mean time my group will be testing what ive made.

Not directly related to what CB can do but a fan made Infinity mod for XCOM would be amazing, the game already has allot of the same mechanics including the two action and reaction systems in place.

If CB were really looking to branch out into videogames getting Fraxix to make an Infinity game using the XCOM engine would be a very good idea, basing it around the Parideso campaign for single player gives it narrative as well.

I have not been into Infinity that long and I'm still having trouble identifying with my models. I had no such problems with my 40k armies, because they all elaborate backstories. I dislike 40k for its rules and dislike GW for its money-first, customers later company policies... but when it comes to design and fluff, I think they are awesome.

Best universe is still BattleTech. So many awesome novels, but again with a flawed game. Backstory is worth reading for its entertainment value alone, though.

So anything in the form of Infinity sourcebooks, novels or comics I would welcome, really. Show me who the men and women in those suits are! Or maybe the daily life of a Shasvasti unit...

Please move the RPG-specific discussion to the RPG thread.
The relevant posts have been moved there, thank you for your cooperation :cop:

And speaking of what's missing, I'd welcome a box of civilians/civilian security bots/remotes, cops, hostages and other "scenario personages", like Antenociti's "Civilians of the Technosphere". And a "scenario objective" box - computer terminals, crates, containers, beacons, holo-game flags et. (even if it's very unlikely, given that MAS started making such objectives... in an aesthetic I don't like and on 40mm bases. And I'd have to buy multiples :().

Yes sir, an objective box set would be fantastic. I recommend a YAMS box set with a Pigeon(civilian), 2 crates, and 2 flags.

So far, only one item with base from MAS (the escape pod). But yeah, the style is not for everyone, random (as in purposeless parts) or really busy.
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

Everytime someone says that the fluff for 40k is awesome I cringe a bit. It's reminiscent of bad fanfiction were angry dudes smack bad angry dudes, a planet tears asunder and only Lord McHandsomeknight is left standing.
That said the fluff for the deceased Necromunda game was quite good because it was more relatable, imaginative and focused much less on "EPICSPACEBATTLES".
I would like to see an artbook really with text explaining the design and tidbits of information.
Also I'd like to see an RPG sourcebook. There is so much fluff that is left unwritten in the current books I feel.

Cool to see so many mentions of use of Civilians and other elements that expand the dimensions of the game - I agree the rules in Infinity are so in-depth and intuitive that they have almost the potential for a role-playing type element. The game universe builds up an image of special-ops teams taking each other on in amongst city blocks, in a living and breathing world of civilians carrying on their daily lives. Such a thing would no doubt be really hard to realise, but undoubtedly really cool if it could be pulled off!

Actually I'm in the process of making my own home-brew rules, will hopefully have something worthwhile to post soon!

Eric Nylund would be an amazing writer for some Infinity inspired novels. Just look at what he was able to do for the Halo franchise.

I don't have a problem how Dan Abnett treats the 40k fluff. It's not like GW consider it sacrosanct. With Blood Angels and necrons bro-fisting and tau and ultramarines being best buddies. He makes a nice change from all the marine fanwank bolterporn.

I'd just like to see some official "civvies" figures. No rpg, no novels, no artbooks, just finishing their lines of miniatures.
If I want an rpg, there are several out there already that you can fit the background into (some better than others). This is also part of the RPG game/campaign construction work any good GM already does. I've seen people roleplaying in the whfb world using pathfinder or D&D, or using traveller to roleplay 40k or star wars.
Hell, I even shoehorned White Wolf's "world of darkness" into the cyberpunk 2020 set (I ran two campaigns at the time, one vampire, one cp2020. The established background of a given game is irrelevant if you WANT to add in a different one.
YAMS markers (it's a fan created mission set. You, the other fans can make up markers for it. It's part of the hobby aspect.) don't come into it.

The bastardization of the 40k background has turned me off to the setting. Dan Abnett wasn't the culprit IMO. His vivid characters and descriptions of Imperial society really brought 40k to life for me.

Hmm, as for now, I'd like the following for Infinity:
- civilian box
- objectives box (25mm ones - crates, flags, deployable technical mcguffins) - or just put 2 civilians in here and sell it together
- artbook (especially in the style of the first books)
- databook ( like the Appleseed one - lots of technical drawings, visual weapon comparison, cutaways "how a TAG works", more fluff bits on the (still) Human Sphere, etc. etc.

Civilian box would be awesome, but would it contain Human, Morat, Shavastii, and Tohaa cilvians? Sounds like a perfect box of four. :)

Might be an idea to do a 'Civilians for Infinity' thread on the forum (if there isn't one already?) There are some awesome models out there which suit it perfectly, many of which are available cheaply.
