Hello everyone
So after playing infinity for a while i have seen the Hard cover rule books advertised on websites such as the ones below

Are these book worth investing in or what do they provide that is different from the free online rules and infinity wiki.
If the books are worth investing in are there many recommendations on what ones to get or just buy the all seeing they are releasing a new edition soon....
And another probable dumb question is what changes between the editions is it the same content with some things changed and other rules added or is it a necessity to have all the editions as they all offer different things.

There were a number of changes with AROs and stuff between 1st and 2nd eds.
You don't need to get a 1st ed to play 2nd ed.
3rd ed looks to be more a tightening of the rules and compilation of newer ones (from Human Sphere and Paradiso) and units than a rules do-over.

The main reasons to buy the book:
1. To own a nice physical hardcover copy of the rules.
2. To have all of the background/fluff
3. To see all of the artwork
Gameplay-wise, you aren't missing out on anything by just using the pdf rules, the online wiki, and the army builder.

In the hexagonal future, there is only war.
Okay i think i might end up getting the new edition when it comes out cause they will also include things about the new sectorial armys wont they?

Not necessarily its a fair assumption it may but no guarantee.
What I do: Chef by trade, arsehole by choice and I play and TO for Infinity when I'm not being either.

Right now we only know that Acheron Falls (the new sectorial supplement) will be delayed by the release of 3rd edition. I actually have the feeling CB is going to follow their previous release schedule of books: rules + supplement of sectorials + campaign
There's no fluff difference between the very first printing of 2006 and 2eRevised. I much prefer the original cover art, but that's a non-issue.
Really, the only reason to own the Infinity core book and Human Sphere is the fluff, the Fan Rule Re-edit is much better presented and more usable as a gaming reference. Paradiso has some rules that have not been e-released (the general campaign rules and Spec-Ops), so there is a reason to own Paradiso outside of the fluff.
But the fluff for the founding of the Imperial Service (in Paradiso) is just freaking wicked. "Beware the wrath of a quiet man" indeed.

We need a 3rd Edition just to fix the cover art on the 2nd Edition book. Compared to the art quality of the other two books (especially Human Sphere), it looks like it was drawn in a serious hurry. Excellent cover art will sell books more easily, bad cover art will do the exact opposite. If I didn't want the fluff so badly, the cover art would have been the thing that pushed me to just using the PDFs when I started.

I actually love the inner artwork of Paradiso! I hope we'll see some more of these 'stroked paintings' like Paradiso in N3.
And I dislike the shift between the older books and Paradiso. Don't get me wrong, nothing really beats a watercolor picture for conveying hot&humid conditions, but the "action-shots" in Paradiso are much flatter (less shading and highlights) than the previous standard. And pretty much everyone interprets "flatter" as "less good".
So I'd like the N3 art closer to the art in Human Sphere and the 1e/2e core books, but maybe with watercolor 'setting' pictures. And we need a badass cover pic again, ideally like Human Sphere's cover.

Wow, i've never considered them flatter. I especially loved the action shot of the running Celestial Guards with the exploding YaoLiu behind it! And the knight fending of a Morat berserker was also really nice, while a totally different setting... But, eye of the beholder and all, I can see why some people would like HS better. I personally love the Paradiso, but that's all a matter of taste I guess.
And I agree with you on the cover art, Paradiso's cover art isn't as striking as HS.
