Wild West Exodus?

by valthonis » April 24th, 2014, 4:07 am

Anyone played this?

www.wildwestexodus.com

I got a demo a couple weeks back during a local open gaming con of sorts. Turns out there are a couple locals that play the game and what I've played seems pretty cool. Curious if anyone else has tried this game? If you're into the Steam Punk + Western theme I recommend checking it out.

That has been covered several times on the WWX forums. Obviously Battlefoam has ownership, but the Devs stated they are seperate companies with seperate employees. Please dont disregard their game and hard work due to Battlefoam.

Personally I liked the actions per model part of the rule. Each model has a "quickness" which indicates their movement but more importantly they each have their own number of actions. It's still a I-go/You-go but only at a per model basis.

You activate Model A that has three actions, you move twice and then shoot. Then I get to activate one of mine. So there is still the ability to "React" to your opponent, just not in the traditional Infinity way. LOL

However, the devs are highly active in the forums and constantly taking feedback and tweaking where needed. So technically the rules are official and done, but the model stats and points could have a little flux, but again, based on community feedback.

I think Hired Hands currently are getting some tweaks including point reductions.

Not a huge fan of the aesthetic(steam punk in general), which is a shame; I'd love a good western style game.

I'm not a huge fan of a larger portion of the stuff, however the basic rules book is $20 which isn't bad if you don't want the fluff.
I was thinking about making some stat cards and using the style as an alternative rule set with Infinity models.

I'm not. I'm disregarding it because cowboys n' indians steampunk doesn't work for me. Not that "glue a gear on it and call it steampunk" works for me normally.
I don't mind some of the models, but I stopped playing with that motif ( C & I) back when I was about 8-9. Then I found SF and left it ALL behind.

Honestly all that really sells me is the crew from Firefly being shamelessly stolen as Mercenaries alongside The Punisher, which is a team up I never expected to see.

No worry guys, I figured I'd share what I found. Some people like Steam/Punk, Westerns, or Sci-Fi.

I like the aesthetic of WWX, I was a backer of the kickstarter and I picked up a 3rd starter at adepticon. One of the local stores is starting to play it so I'm going to give it a chance.

iirc, the Firefly crew came as requests from backers during the kickstarter campaign and the Punisher is from the person who picked the highest backer tier to design a hero model for the game.

Especially too soon for Wash. Book at least went out fighting. Wash, the greatest pilot in the 'Verse, takes a steel beam through the chest due to a crash landing?!?

Excuse me, Mr. Wheadon, we need to have words... :jihad: :cop:

He didn't take a beam through the chest due to a crash landing. They crash landed, paused for a moment, then a Reaver ship shot some metal spikes through the cockpit killing Walsh and nearly getting Mal and Zoe.

Joss always kills someone you like though, and the movie was rad, excluding that scene.

??

Been "a while" since I saw the film, so I wrote it as I remembered it.

Still not happy that the best damn pilot in the whole 'Verse got punked like that. and that's WITHOUT having seen all of Firefly first.

Second best pilot in his class, technically; Mr. Universe beat him out, if you check the graduation records. :didactic:

(Also the Novelization was a pretty fun read)

Our group just played a first game of this last weekend. I was just a spectator and it looked so fun that I'm ordering a union army.

Besides, a game where I can use Abe Lincoln and Nikolai Tesla is just really cool.
In the hexagonal future, there is only war.
