Awesome way to pimp those MAS buildings.

How do you paint the dirt?

Progress!

Tomorrow will be the big day for my dropship and the datapiller agent. And just in time I have finished the datapiller-shop. Here some impressions:
ImageImageImageImageImage

I made another step in reproducing MAS holoboards: I gave the print a cover of spray-coat (matt... But I bet it works in gloss as well) before using gloss varnish liquid to "glue" it to the plexiglass. This way the letters get a really nice holo effect.

Love the logos on the shipping containers.

Did you print them out as decals, or simply glue down paper?

A quick question to all you terrain gurus here. Have you made experience with carving MDF?

I am thinking about new tables and the experience I have made with thick Mdf so far have been quite good. Sadly my supply of nearly endless plastic plates has run dry and I think cardboard would suffer to much.

MDF carves really easily. It is basically grainless wood. As such you don't have to fight with the material if you want to go cross grain.

I've found that using a Dremel or similar tool with a sharp carbide tip works exceptionally well.

I habe thought about using my dremel. The Problem I am having with that is long, straight, clean lines. I fear that my shaky hand would mess up things... Ever tried just a carpet knife?

For long straight sections I would recommend a table saw or band saw if you (or a friend) had access to one. Depending on how long your 'long' sections are, even a circular saw could work. If absolutely worse came to worse, a hand saw would cut through MDF quite easily. Make sure to leave a small margin between your cut and the trim line, and then you sand down the remainder with a power (or hand) sander.

A carpet knife ~could~ work, but the new Infinity RPG might be out before you finished...

Doesn't Dremel have accesories to cut straight, or even work as a router? If so, all you would need is another piece of wood, or a ruler, to use as guide.
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

Dremel does have an attachment to turn it into a micro router.

Long straight lines can be cut with a knife as well. It's just slow. (I don't like slow)

Thanks for all your input. To make some sort of ruler-bit for the dremel sounds like a plan. When I am at the home improvement store yo buy the MDF I will keep my eyes open if something like that exists. If not, I will make me one :D

Until then, here some shots of my current doing:

The train is finished! Well it still needs a seal to keep the pigments in place but then, mission 205 can come...Image
And with some o:I boxes

And some more MAS stuffImage
@ the spiel I got this dragon shaped token... And thought it would fit great on a restaurant...
Image
I decided to give all buildings interiors (they have added a lot of fun to the recent games)
So here... A small kitchenImage

Thanks for looking :)

Terrain looks sweet.

The reason for using a table or band saw is they come with a rail that helps guide the material, and keep what you are cutting square to the blade. If you can ad hoc sue a system for a dremel then you should be set.

Only carving? Small details? Do some pases with blade and ruler, then some more with a tiny file to enlarge the crack.

I've been working with some MDF to make interior walls for some of my terrain and have had success cutting reasonable straight lines with a hand "bone" saw. If I were using a proper guide it would probably be easier. Works quite well without too much effort.

Thanks guys!

I will see if I make some progress tonight and i will keep you updated.

Until then, I have my new diner place (though, looking at the kitchen, I wouldn't eat there...) To show you. The dragon was a give-away token from the spiel from some company who's name i forgot.
First interior in blue. Have to say, I really like that...
