Data-Sphere Painting Campaign!
Spring '15 Season

The goal of this campaign is to paint our models and show off our progress in an attempt to keep a steady and sustainable pace of painting.
Participants (and observers) are encouraged to share Work In Progress (WIP) pictures and divulge their techniques and recipes for their works.
High amounts of detail and creativity are encouraged, but not required for participation.

To enter:
  1. Post in the season's thread with your entry. Both an unpainted (with a timestamp) and finished picture of the entry.

The theme of this season is: Grunts!

Who are your "Cheerleaders"? The backbone of your army? Let's give them the attention they deserve!

That's it!

At the end of each Season (this first one ending on February 28th at 23:59:59 UTC), no more submissions will be accepted and the season's submissions will be compiled together. The following month, poll thread(s) will allow users to vote for which models they most like! There is no strict criteria on what you are casting your vote for! What this means is that users can vote on the "Most Improved", "Best Painted", "Most Interesting", "Most Ambitious", "Most Helpful", "Most Friendly", "Most Involved", "Most Funny", etc.! This form of voting doesn't prevent amateur or new painters from taking part. I know I'll always be voting for those that try their hardest. You'll also have multiple votes, so no worrying about which entries to pick! Votes are changeable at any time during the voting month. Voting for this first season will end on March 28th at 23:59:59 UTC.

To vote:
  1. View the appropriate thread for the month that you wish to vote for.
  2. View ALL entries for that month in the provided Imgur album (that will be accessible in the top post).
  3. Select your vote(s) from the Poll in the thread.

You're done!

Note: it's possible that the number of entries will require multiple poll threads. In this case, please view all threads.

Prizes!
But wait! There's more!

For each season, there will be 3 winners that will be featured.
Second and Third places will receive commemorative patches and feature in a blog post.
First place will receive the same prizes as Second and Third, as well as some Vallejo paints to reward their artistry.

Best of luck!

If you have any questions, post 'em below and I'll respond in the thread.

Now, that's a great idea.

But to be honest, I was hoping more for a motivation campaign (like a paint two models per month campaign) or something similar... To compete versus all those awesome painters out there is more like _not_ motivating for me :-S

It will be a seasonal event. This one is Spring. So Summer and Autumn will come in the future. ;) Each one has a theme, so who knows. I think your idea certainly fits a theme. :)

Personally, I don't really care about not winning! ^^ showing off your work is always cool! And I learned a lot from other contest, where people did stuff that I copied later on.

This first one is to make it very easy to enter. Also: nothing is stopping you from entering multiple times! All your entries will fall under one name, after all.

The goal of this campaign is not so much the competition, but the camaraderie that will (hopefully) grow here. Lots of advice, critique, and helpful statements can come forth with more WIPs given.

And as Scorch mentioned, there are various themes that will occur throughout the year for the various seasons (we've planned for 4 seasons this year) that will alter the "requirements".

Aaannnnd I just realized I didn't put the theme in the post. I'll edit that right away, but for those looking at this reply, this season's theme is: Grunts!

Who are your "Cheerleaders"? The backbone of your army? Let's give them the attention they deserve!

Oh cool. Hopefully when the CA starter pack *finally* shows up (tonight, with luck) I can get started on this :)

So where do we make our thread?

This is the first season's thread! Just post in here. I'll be keeping track of entries throughout the month. Make sure to let me know if the picture posted is the "entry" picture that will be voted on.

Edit: to expound on this, voting for this season's entries will occur during March.

Hi, I will enter this! So last date to post the unpainted minis are feb 28th but what date will the thread be open for voting? I guess the model should be fully painted by the time the voting start or what´s the deal on that?

You can submit the unpainted miniature (with datestamp) any time before the contest close (Feb 28th at 23:59:59 UTC).

Note that the final "entry" picture should also be posted before the contest closes.

Guess I'd better get to assembling those Alguacils.. though I wouldn't call them cheerleaders, they are definitely my most loved grunts. Cheap and cheerful FOs with nice Deployable Repeaters, they're the smallest cogs in the Nomad machine; invaluable.

The only true cheerleaders are Netrods and Imetrons. :P

I do really like this idea.

Anyone is welcome to join. Though, we'd prefer you paint your own models. That said, I can't prove whether or not you painted the model you submit. Though, please behave ethically.

Kinsman, unfortunately the Anaconda (being a very strong TAG) does not qualify under the theme of this first campaign, and thus cannot be entered. You're free to post WIPs and participate in discussion, but the TAG will not be included as a valid entry. Some Metros or even Chasseurs would be allowed, though.

We're assuming of course that Kinsman's not playing a 1,000pt game where he fields three Anaconda cheerleaders in his back line :P

Are Yaogats fit as Grunts ?

Re: Data-Sphere Painting Campaign

by Claudius Sol
I will not be accepting the Yaogat as grunt models. My criteria are sort of loose, but I generally am looking for:
- LI, sub 25 points and not required specialist
- MI, sub 30 points and not required specialist or required "specialization" (ie. close combat)
- WB, Myrmidons are the most of what I'm accepting due to their nature in ALEPH (ASS in particular)
- SK, varies
- HI, only exception is the Zu Yong
- TAG, no
- REM, 8 point REMs, 4 point beacons, Dakinis

Those are just some loose criteria. If you have a model and are unsure, feel free to ask!

So, I should drop my 4 old Invincibles into Simple Green?

If you'd like to, Section9. Though, only if you care to repaint them... :D A "Before/After" with how long it was between would be cool.

Well damn…

Whelp. Three Line Kazaks ready for the white zenith treatment (completed yesterday).
Image

Am currently working on the female Kazak - have the skin/face and undershirt completed. Base-coated the pants, jacket, hair, and backpack. Estimated time elapsed: 2-3 hr. Need to highlight and shade pants, jacket, hair, and backpack, fully paint boots, guns, and base, then add more flocking to base, and paint it.
