el_presidente's men [Nomads]

¡Damas y caballeros! I present to you a newbie's foray into the world of Infinity. I got started with Operation: Icestorm and the plan is to go on playing Nomads.

To make things more interesting I jumped in the MayaCast painting contest! So I've got limited time to paint up the minis I got. The idea is to go with a conservative scheme close the the original (not very exciting I know).

Here are my Alguaciles to get things started:

Those are quite nice.
Could use some more highlights, but besides that, good work.

I agree, right now It's just gonna be a simple gaming standard. Partly because I'm gonna be running demos and it's nicer to play painted (even if its simple) than bare metal and partly because of time constraints to make the challenge (7 more models to go!).

The plan is to go back and add some more details once the holidays start.

Mobile Brigada coming up soon

edit: Here it is:

Image

edit2: The grenzer and the spektr join the team!

For the Tunguska troops I'm adding more greys and white but keeping the red as an accent and using the same dark colors for things like trousers to tie it a bit together with the Corregidor troops.

Image

Image

edit3: This is a test of the Bakunin troops, I'm replacing red with orange adding more white and keeping the dark color from before. These stand out a little more from the rest, but I think it sorta fits with bakunin being the weird ones. What do you think?

Tiny update with a couple of remotes to complete the MayaCast challenge  . After things slow down in december I'll start going back and retouching the details and even have a go at the eyes :ohdear:

Don't fear the eyes, just do them first ;)

Or don't bother with the eyes at all.

Looking at a 30mm-tall figure 3 feet away is like looking at a real person 50-60m away (~65 yards, if you think in Imperial units). You generally cannot see the eyes of a person that far away, the exception is someone with particularly dark skin.

So I just leave the eyes in my skin shadow color and highlight around them.

Hey! I can only spread the knowledge this far! ;)

Still it seems like you haven't done (at least some) faces yet (unless i'm mistaken, i'm mostly looking at the Reverend gal and it seems like only a skin-colored basecoat on that photo), so it's almost the same, you'll have to be a bit more careful to not hit the hair and clothing but from the rest of the minis i believe you can handle it.

Some additions to the nomad forces!

The gorgeous Custodiers (this was one of the minis that got me to choose nomads)
Image

Next some exclusives, first the CSU. (Not 100% happy about the stockings, but since she'll just be used as a civvie and in Icestorm games I'll just call it done for now)

Image

And finally the Authorized bounty hunter, this guy is just badass. I went with a different scheme so he stands out from the rest of the Nomads. He's sort of a mix of Boba fett and master chief :P

and I also painted a Sputnik! whick I use as a Lunokhod or Tsyklon, so I tried "merging" the two official schemes.

The second merc :merc: to join the crew, señor massacre!

I tried giving him a similar scheme to my corregidor models (since they're pals) but also keeping him distinct from the rest, so he got a darker red.
This was also my first attempt at glazing and I've found that I really lack the patience to do it properly , it's slow and takes too many layers! :suicide:

Anyways here's how he turned out:

Not bad at all! I'd suggest making the iris (colored part of the eye) a bit bigger, so that the colored circle just barely touches the lower eyelid.

You're already above and beyond what I can do.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll leave this one as it is because I have bad experiences with trying to fix already finished models :ohdear: . But I'll give it a go with the next one, though the next ones in the queue are a bunch of helmeted-eyeless nomads :nomad:

I'm back from my slumber! Life has been eating up my hobby time and I have quite a big backlog. I've finished and interventor and a fastpanda that have now been sendt to the MayaCast painting contest (so I'll show it later) but for you guys I have a Hellcat!

I've been experimenting with a new way of paiting red, trying to learn how to do shiny red armor.

A "quickie" here's the O-12 commissioner. Should I paint "O-12" on the white bands, or leave them as they are?

I also went back and painted eyes on the old models now that I'm more confortable with it, but I still don't like it :P

Here he is with his bodyguard, now with eyes!

After a little bit of a hiatus in painting (holidays) I'm back with some Jaguares! These were a lot of fun to paint. It's also the first time I try doing tattoos but it went better than I thought it would!
Let me know what you think :)

I like the tattoos. Glad that you went for the eyes. Not all models need them, but many just look so more lively once they have eyes painted.
