Shavaasti Expeditionary Force vs Haqqislam: Global Frequency

by SgtHulka » March 14th, 2013, 5:13 am

GLOBAL FREQUENCY BATREP

Less than an hour ago a Shavaasti bomber was shot down over thickly forested wilderness on Helicon. It was on a mission to drop jammers that would interfere with a violent worker's dispute and further secret Combined Army objectives. When the bomber was shot down, the jammers were activated. But they weren't just jamming the Haqqislam mercenaries working for the Mining Companies, they were also jamming Shavaasti infiltration agents. So strike forces from both sides were sent to destroy the jammers.

THE BATTLEFIELD

Intelligence imagery of the battlefield was destroyed in a recent cyber attack (forgot to put the memory card in my camera, sorry).

INITIATIVE

Hack-Islam rolled an 8. Shavaast-Infiltrate rolled a 12. Shavaasti chose to deploy first and go first.

ACTIVE TURN 1: Shavaast-Infiltrate

An inferior infiltrating Caliban engineer failed its roll during deployment and scattered a few inches away from the right-flank jammer. Since he was no longer in camo, I was afraid he'd be destroyed so I spent an order to hatch him. He survived ARO's from the Barid and a Naffatun (thanks to long range and -3 low visibility forest in the way). I then intended to run him back to the Jammer and use Engineer on it, but I forgot the jammers made him irregular! He was out of orders! So the Shrouded gaurding that flank came out of camo, went prone (into complete cover), and dropped a mine at the corner of the hill.

On my far left flank, a Fiday was on the high ground of a forested hill. I brought my Shrouded out of Camo and declared a Discover. The Fiday was already at Impersonator Level 2 (because my army was aliens) so he decided to blow his cover and drop a mine. I then took my Malignos Sniper out of hidden deployment on a forested hill in the center back of my deployment zone and killed the Fiday!

Image

Although I had a lot of orders left, most of my figures were in seeds or in camo and I didn't want to expose them yet. So I passed.

ACTIVE TURN 1: Hack-Islam

The Kum biker impetuously rode toward my exposed Caliban Engineer, who took a shot at him with his combi rifle. The Kum biker responded with his smoke grenade launcher, expertly landing the smoke right on top of the Caliban and spoiling his shot. The Kum biker then used his irregular order to roar up the hill, but in doing so he passed a camo marker that turned out to be a mine (from my right-flank minelayer). Unfortunately, he was too fast and blazed right past the mine's explosion (armor save).

Image

On my left flank (Hack-Islam's right flank), the Shihab total reaction remote rushed the hill in order to gain cover and get within optimal range of my Malignos Sniper.

Image

My Malignos fired at it before it could get into cover, and it fired back from optimal range. I needed a 15 and rolled a 12. The Total Reaction Remote needed a 2 and rolled a crit! My Sniper -- my most expensive model -- went unconscious!

Image

The Taureg Hacker (proxied with a Djanziban) revealed himself in the very center of the board and successfully hacked the central jammer (represented by a crate). The burned marker turned out to be set to Hack-Islam's frequency. Hack-Islam gains 2 xp!

Image

Unfortunately for the Taureg, those two camo markers were mines and they turned the hacker into a bloody pulp.

The Barid Hacker then launched a Marker with expert marksmanship, landing it adjacent to the right-flank jammer. Using her Lieutenant order, she successfully hacked the jammer. It turned out to be set to the Shavaasti frequency!

Image

Convinced that my camo marker in base contact with the last remaining jammer (now determined to be the Global Frequency), Hack-Islam decided not to activate the camouflaged Hawwa Hacker within range of it. Instead, he passed on his remaining orders.

ACTIVE TURN 2: SHAVAAST-INFILTRATE

My seed embryos hatched, revealing that the marker in contact with the global frequency jammer was, in fact, a Caliban Engineer. I also hatched a Seed Soldier and a Caliban Hacker in forest low-visibility zones near the center of my deployment zone.

I activated my Malignos' auto-medikit, drawing an ARO from the total reaction remote. It critted once and hit once. My Malignos made its medikit survival roll, but the crit put him back unconscious. He armor saved against the second hit and therefore remained unconscious.

I activated the Caliban Engineer, placing a d-charge on the global frequency jammer. The Hawaa came out of camo to ARO him, and the Total Reaction Remote also took a 4 burst ARO. The Caliban miraculously survived and took cover behind the hill (chose to fail my guts check).

Clear on the other side of the board, my Shrouded dropped a second mine. Then my other Caliban Engineer activated the demo charge. This set off a series of templates. First, the Kum Biker ARO'd with his Chain Rifle. That ARO set off both mines.

Image

The Kum Biker was killed by the mines' shock ammo and the Caliban Engineer was knocked unconscious by the Chain Rifle. The detonated D-charge only did one damage to the 3-ST global frequency jammer.

Sick of getting owned by the Total Reaction Remote, I activated my Noctifier Lieutenant and had him charge pork chop hill. During the first order, the Total Reaction Remote failed to Discover the Noctifier. With his Lieutenant Order, I took cover across the hill in optimum combi rifle range and destroyed the TRR.

At that point there wasn't much more I could do with my remaining irregular orders so I passed.

ACTIVE TURN 2: HACK-ISLAM

The Hawwa activated and successfully hacked the global frequency jammer. My Caliban Engineer reacted with an ARO, knocking the Hawwa unconscious, but Hack-Islam now had more XP, 3 to my 2. If those were victory points, Hack-Islam won. However, our reading of the scenario led us to believe they were not victory points, they were only campaign xp, so we continued play.

Hack-Islam used his remaining orders to move whoever he could up within line of sight of unconscious Shavaasti or spawn-embryos, killing as many as he could. He took out my unconscious Caliban, its spawn embryo, my Malignos sniper, its spawn embryo, and another two embryos before he ran out of orders. I still wasn't in retreat!

ACTIVE TURN 3: SHAVAAST-INFILTRATE

At this point my Noctifier and surviving Shrouded took control of the game. With TO Camo and Regular Camo in low-visibility zones, they were almost impossible to hit. Plus, most of his camo units had been killed securing objectives. I wiped out his Hunzakut with my Noctifier, and then I killed a Naffatun and his Barid with my Shrouded. He was in loss of lieutenant and in retreat, so the game ended.

Shavast-Infiltrate wins on Victory Points!

thanks for another report! i think i might give the noctifer lieutenant a go since i'v got a spare swc in the 150pt learning list i'v been using, wouldn't be expected and seems to have done well for you. have you played with the caliban much?

I love, love, love the Caliban. The fact that they start in camo is great (assuming you go all camo), the fact that you can infiltrate them is great (though it's risky and expensive), the fact that they can be engineers is great, the fact they can be armed with feuerbachs is great, the fact they can be -3 BTS hackers is great (though the noctifier is probably better for the same price). But really the kicker is the automedikit.

To be honest, I think the verdict's still out a little bit on the Noctifier Lt. For only 2 points more you can have a Aswuaung and conventional wisdom says he's better (and I think he's SWC 0). In this particular list I chose the Nocitifier because I had spare SWC and I didn't have spare points, and it turned out a net positive because TO Camo is exactly what I needed to charge that hill and take out the Total Reaction Remote. I've now had luck both times I've used the Noctifier lieutenant, in a previous game that was a bloodbath he won it for me in the last turn burning dogged orders. But the problem with him is that generally dogged on a lieutenant is kind of wasted because unless it's the last turn you don't want to rambo your lieutenant like that. Counter argument is TO camo on a lieutenant makes him very hard to assassinate (just don't use hidden deployment). I'd say give him a try and see if you like him.

I can only imagine how awesome a regular Spitfire armed Noctifier must be, though. And the Noctifier Hacker looks really attractive.

Aswang is always the better LT. I actually wanted to ask you about it the moment you posted the list. Aswang has great ARO in the form of ADHL and Protheion gets it additional survivability as LT. Glue some unfortunate, eat him alive, pop back into camo with 3 wounds, have fun killing my LT ^+++^ On the other hand, I found the Noctifer a very fun hacker option. He is one of the cheaper hackers and gets -3 BTS so he's good for support - I rarely use hackers offensively, not enough HI in my meta; I tend to take him as drone support (dual Q-Drones are awesome murderbots) and a -6 to hit fire support unit. Even a combi can be nasty in TO.

BTW, you can try deploying him as a normal camo marker. The moment it gets revealed it's -6 to hit, and hmmm which one of the 10 camo markers is my Noctifer?

Yup, that's what I did the last time I used a Noctifier Lt. Frankly, the only reason I deployed him as a TO marker this time is because with all my seeds, my shrouded and my mines, I was out of camo markers! My son had to use Emaulers as camo tokens for his Hunzakut and Hawwa'.

cool, i might have to give the caliban feuerbach a go. Also sounds like i need to use my noctifer hacker more, i field him to get the murderbot and batroid, i keep meaning to use him more but last game he got gunned down by a lasiq, and before that there was too much MSV2 floating around so the remotes, and a trigger happy aswang, took care of business.

UPDATE: Per Locksmith's response in his thread, I believe the XP should be read as Victory Points in this scenario, and therefore my son/Hack-Islam won (again  )

Everyone seems to like the comic book style which makes me :D

But it also makes me kind of :( because I don't really know what I' doing with the Comic Life program. My TAG versus TAG report just kind of used the default sample pages, so I'm afraid if I tried the Comic Book style again it would just turn out the same. But I guess I'll never know until I try!

Rome wasn't built in a day. It takes time to build up skills.

Look at me. It took me 3 days just to figure out how to use Seamonkey to create a Table for another website. :suicide:  :ohdear:
