Battle for the Bayou Part 1

R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Find out what it means to me…

This past Sunday, January the 18th, was a momentous event in Infinity history: A grand tournament was held in the St. Arnold’s Beer Hall in Houston, Texas. This was a tournament so large that we had to call it a Dire States event. New Mexico, Amarillo, Houston, Georgia, Colorado, Oklahoma, College Station, and Dallas (Sorry if I left your meta out! Let me know and I’ll fix it.)

Infinity and Beer.

The tournament started with an open declaration of war by “Dude”, on behalf of the Houston meta, on all the surrounding meta groups. Houston claimed to have something called “Respect” and that us other metas were challenged to “Come and take it”.

Needless to say, the fighting was brutal and the drinking was intense. The event started, in earnest, at 11 AM as many different people brought in their tables of terrain to set them up in the brewery. Twelve tables were set up for twenty-four players. Then things got really interesting at noon as the bar opened and would remain open for the next three hours. You heard me, 3 HOURS of FREE BEER. Having sampled quite a fair amount, I would wholly recommend St. Arnold’s Winter Stout.

In a later article, I’ll go over my games as best as I can. Alcohol is a poor tool for enhancing one’s memory.

At the end, it was a lot of fun. Got to see a lot of old friends, meet new ones, share more than a few beers, and got to do it all with N3. Mission accomplished.

It was really a great time. We even had a bit of a post-tournament party that went from a Hobbit themed restaurant to Dutch’s place where the movieĀ Dark Crystal was watched and more alcohol consumed.

Does this all sound like a good time to you? Yes? Maybe we’ll see you there next year. Don’t forget another Dire States event is occurring over in Amarillo in March! The last day for pre-registration is February 14th. and the event itself is March 14th. I’ll be attending as it’s bound to be a blast. Beerfinity the night before, the tournament on Saturday, then awesome bowling the night afterwards.

And a great time was had by all!
This was my first Infinity Tournament, and it set the bar high! I saw lots of great tables, lots of great minis, and met some really cool guys from the Infinity ‘Verse.
I hope to make it to some of the other Dire States events before next year rolls around for another Dire States: Houston event.
    Great meeting you Bryant!

ski, the pleasure was mine. I can certainly relate to a bar being set high. My first real Infinity tournament was the first Dire States event: Rumble on Route 66 in ’14. Man that was a blast. It was nice seeing every tournament since following suit and being loads of fun.

You’re an Amarillo local, aren’t you? So I suppose I’ll see you come this year’s Rumble. I’m going to try making it in for Beerfinity on Friday night. If not, we’ll certainly see each other Saturday before/during/after the Tournament.

Amarillo local? Nah, I’m one of the H-Town regulars. I played you Saturday night at Montags, and brought the Bug Hunt Corridors for Sunday.
I would love to make it to Rumble, but that is immediately following my 10th wedding anniversary and I’ll be too broke to make it up there.
Maybe one of the following Dire State events, or big H-Town tournament, if possible.

Ah, my bad. I had it in my head that you were from Amarillo… *shrug*

Have fun on your anniversary ;D
